from my understanding of how they did it was, they'd convince them to cut themselves off friends and family...then put them into social isolation to make them starve for attention of any kind...then take them to the next level of programming to be a loyal slave

special diets and exercise ...very low carbs so they'd wouldn't build up fat nor muscle effectively to even fight off somebody but stay attractive and young looking
