Do you know what a tin can referred to in the navy?
No I don't
Ok, well destroyer and destroyer escorts were called tin cans. Because they would be crushed like a tin can if they were hit by enemy ships like a cruiser all the way to a big battleship.
Interesting I didn't know that
So there's a book called, "the last stand of the Tin can sailors." And it talks about the entire conflict between literally tin cans turning an entire Japanese navy battleship group.
Oh man
Taffy 3 was the name of group. They were made of like 4 or 5 dd(destroyers) and 4-6 de(destroyer escorts) and a a dozen or so jeep carriers who were supporting the landing at leyte for the Philippines island invasion.
They were the only thing standing between the troop and supply ships.
Oh wow I didn't know that
I'll share a link with you.
Sounds good
Here's one. I'll see if I can't find one with some graphics.
Thanks
Never heard of that battle
