so youd want to do something like multiple everything with the denominator of 3 by 5, and everything with the denominator of 5 by 3 (so it all comes out to something over 15.

2020-09-17 17:29:00 UTC

I forget exactly how to do that though. and fuck algebra 2. my worst math class and worst subject ever... only class I EVER came anywhere close to failing.

2020-09-17 17:29:54 UTC

Ehh Geometry was harder for me loool then again this is only the 2nd week of Algebra 2...

2020-09-17 17:30:02 UTC

Alrighty thanks for the help everyone <:TrumpSmile:720121948088041513>

2020-09-17 17:30:46 UTC

bruh, I rocked at geometry. it seems like a lot of people are really good at algebra, OR geometry.

2020-09-17 17:30:51 UTC

happy to help man

2020-09-17 17:31:20 UTC

😀

2020-09-17 17:56:54 UTC

...

#10 r is 72/5
-16/5 = r/3 -8
Add 8 to both sides, multiply 8 by 5 to slide it into the top of the fraction on the left
(40-16)/5=r/3
24/5=r/3
Multiply both sides by 15 to cancel out both denominators
72=5r
divide both by 5, get r
72/5=r

2020-09-17 18:22:20 UTC

Do fuck am I late to the party

2020-09-17 18:24:14 UTC

wait how do you go from 24/5=r/3 to 72=5r? its been a while, but I dont understand how exactly how got to that

2020-09-17 18:24:48 UTC

Multiply both by 15

2020-09-17 18:25:12 UTC

you would multiply 24/5 by 15/15 right?

2020-09-17 18:25:29 UTC

5 cancels out left bottom, so 24*3

2020-09-17 18:25:29 UTC

oh wait, 15/1

2020-09-17 18:25:34 UTC

nah, 15/1

2020-09-17 18:25:49 UTC

ohhhh okay. i remember now

2020-09-17 18:26:06 UTC

not 15/15 because thats 1, 15/1 makes 360/5 which reduces to 72

2020-09-17 18:26:07 UTC

okay

2020-09-17 18:26:23 UTC

fuck I hate math lol

2020-09-17 18:27:22 UTC

I'm fine with it until they add the greek letters, fuck that noise

2020-09-17 18:27:37 UTC

and I guess I was wrong? multiplying both sides by 15 works the same as multiplying both sides by the inverse to get common denominators, right?

2020-09-17 18:27:51 UTC

It's the same

2020-09-17 18:28:04 UTC

I just said 15 cause it is the end result

2020-09-17 18:28:04 UTC

okay, but doing it by 15 is quicker and has less steps

2020-09-17 18:28:09 UTC

Yep

2020-09-17 18:28:13 UTC

gotcha!

2020-09-17 18:28:49 UTC

Mark out he denominators and cross-apply them

2020-09-17 18:28:58 UTC

Or something

2020-09-17 18:29:02 UTC

I may not be sober

2020-09-17 18:29:32 UTC

ohhhhh wait, I see, you skipped steps and just went ahead and multiplied the numerators by 15 instead of doing the shit I said by multiplying all of them. same exact thing, but you skipped a couple steps. one of my greatest weaknesses in math was skipping steps. couldnt skip any of them without getting horribly confused

2020-09-17 18:30:15 UTC

My brain just auto pilots on most stuff

2020-09-17 18:30:30 UTC

nice to be reminded of this stuff a little bit though, every so often its nice to get a refresher... especially since im so bad at it lol.

2020-09-17 18:30:37 UTC

and no worries man, youre right I just couldnt figure it

2020-09-17 18:50:11 UTC

> fuck I hate math lol
@Wardog If I were a mod, I’d ban you for this 😡

2020-09-17 18:51:02 UTC

It's truth

2020-09-17 18:56:09 UTC

You’ve been listening to too much Jimmy Buffett!

2020-09-17 18:56:18 UTC

Math is great

2020-09-17 18:57:02 UTC

Without math, how would we know what percentage of the population commits what percentage of the violent crimes?

2020-09-17 18:57:35 UTC

Math teaches a lot of logic. It is very useful that way

2020-09-17 18:59:09 UTC

Too bad SJW’s are trying to ruin math.
