eg. if you teleport someone by deleting and reconstructing "them", is it still them?

@DrewDaPilot actually its kinda the opposite
society is held together by a social contractthat being if you agree not to cause trouble you are granted certain benifits (this can be seen in the idea of citizenship benifits)

if it was greed, there would be no society

2020-10-16 01:15:25 UTC

I said evolutionary greed

2020-10-16 01:15:34 UTC

in the sense that we evolved social connections to benefit the individual

2020-10-16 01:15:35 UTC

wait really

there is no proof for evolution

2020-10-16 01:15:43 UTC

true

2020-10-16 01:15:44 UTC

Consider:
Place a ladder in a monkey cage with a banana on top. Rig the top rungs to trigger a water sprinkler any time a monkey climbs it.
A few monkeys will climb and take the banana. Eventually, the monkeys realize the water sprinkler cuts on, and start beating up any monkey that tries to climb the ladder.
Once they've all stopped climbing the ladder, start replacing monkeys with new ones one at a time. The new ones will attempt to climb, and get beat up. Keep doing this until all of the original monkeys have been replaced.
You now have a cage of monkeys who refuse to climb the ladder, with no idea why.

That's where we find ourselves with much of our modern wisdom, tradition, and values.
Progressives keep pointing at the banana and asking why we don't just grab it, and conservatives don't know the whole answer, they just know it's a bad idea.

still vague af

2020-10-16 01:15:55 UTC

"aware of ones surroundings"

2020-10-16 01:15:58 UTC

a pig is aware of its surroundings

2020-10-16 01:16:04 UTC

so by that definition, a pig is objectively conscious

2020-10-16 01:16:17 UTC

true

2020-10-16 01:16:23 UTC

but its not as aware as humans

2020-10-16 01:16:29 UTC

we can sense better than pigs

2020-10-16 01:16:31 UTC

@cuddlycactus21 true, most proof of evolution is anectdotal but regardless, humans "developed" the ability to communicate

2020-10-16 01:16:31 UTC

the last definition is best

2020-10-16 01:16:41 UTC

if communication didnt benefit humans, they wouldnt have spent time learning how to make languages and stuff

2020-10-16 01:16:53 UTC

God made languages at the tower of bable

2020-10-16 01:16:56 UTC

babel

2020-10-16 01:16:58 UTC

i believe that the mind evolved in a sense that humans became smarter

Corn pop story

2020-10-16 01:17:04 UTC

an "evolution isnt proven" argument make me dissent my opinion

2020-10-16 01:17:04 UTC

dolphins and elephants are two of the main ones, I mean, look at some of the things theyve taught gorillas, monkeys, and other primates. Koko that was able to communicate in American sign language... Hell, check out Stella the Dog and BilliSpeaks (old house cat) on youtube... their owners are teaching them how to commuincate with them in english using buttons on the floor that when pressed, say an english word. one time Stella the Dog's "beach" button broke, and she had to figure out how to tell her owner she wanted to go to the beach, so she pushed the buttons "Stella" "Go" "Water" "Outside" to communicate that thought. a completely unique sentence for her... because the "Water" button had only ever been used to describe the water in her water bowl, the stuff she drinks, and somehow she made the connection that the water at the beach, though a bit different, is the same kind of thing as the water in her bowl.

2020-10-16 01:17:05 UTC

hey hey if there was a species on earth smarter than us we would not be sentient in their eyes as they make the criteria

2020-10-16 01:17:16 UTC

Corn pop was a bad dude, cmon man

2020-10-16 01:17:27 UTC

religion puts me in a hard philosophical place

2020-10-16 01:17:37 UTC

cuz your wrong

2020-10-16 01:17:40 UTC

because I honestly think theres a mental aspect to it, but I cant explain exactly how

2020-10-16 01:17:48 UTC

there is no "wrong" in regards to religion

2020-10-16 01:17:50 UTC

yes

2020-10-16 01:17:55 UTC

> cuz your wrong
@cuddlycactus21 thats hard to defend

2020-10-16 01:17:56 UTC

calling other people wrong simply because they dissent from your opinion is disgustingly arrogant

2020-10-16 01:18:23 UTC

if you dont believe the bible, then you dont believe the truth and therefore you are wrong

2020-10-16 01:18:31 UTC

are you a troll?

2020-10-16 01:18:33 UTC

no

2020-10-16 01:18:38 UTC

dude what

2020-10-16 01:18:39 UTC

tell me how a piece of writing is "truth"

2020-10-16 01:18:42 UTC

the bible isnt the truth to us, so youre wrong. this is pushing the bounds of zealotry to me.
