Can’t fix the past. Can only make the best decision in the present. Regardless of human impact on the climate having a small footprint on the earth is something most could agree on.
That was nature. The thing is, yes we are coming out of an ice age, but the temperature increases we are seeing now are concluded to be unnatural and way too fast
> There used to be huge trees in Louisiana. Possibly a thousand years old. They are all gone. Saplings won’t do the same work.
@yeti_steamroller yes and that is a shame. Most of those trees were not taken within the last say 50 or so years, but before carbon emissions really became a talking point.
Something nature can't do itself
So... you believe taxing people will stop it?
In the present the smart thing to do is move away from lowlands. And not keep spending money to rebuild NOLA
No?
I never said that.
> That was nature. The thing is, yes we are coming out of an ice age, but the temperature increases we are seeing now are concluded to be unnatural and way too fast
@BrightPopz yes, but everyone bitches about the USA being the biggest carbon producer in the world. That just changed and now China and India produce more carbon than the USA could ever even hope to produce. Now the talking point is "we aren't doing enough"
well we won't do crap until everyone else does
again
Concluded by people who can’t reliably measure the trend of the climate for more than about 100 years of history lol
I don't support combating climate change
Let me take this tiny sample and extrapolate it. Then use what I get to drive public policy
> well we won't do crap until everyone else does
@BrightPopz ummm what rock do you live under? The USA has been lowering its carbon foot print for the better part of the 21st century
We cut our emissions a by like 1/4 a few years ago. China only increased theirs. They've never stopped demanding we make more change while no one else on the planet is expected to do anything. We don't even pollute the most but ok.
China's the real problem. Our "controbutions" arent doing anything
the last 15 years we have seen a decline in our total carbon footprint
The best thing that’s happened to the environment in the past 100 years is locking everyone in their homes
that's true
Not even close
Now you're just sitting there making tons of non-biodegradable trash.
I believe in clean air and clean water. But not because of man made climate change doctrine
The thing is, so many companies are already required to put back in at least a chuck of what they take out that it's already being combatted.
@Risate okay my thing on covid is 1 we needed the shutdowns at the time for exactly 1 month no longer. By that point we had enough data collected to reopen. At first it was thought the virus was going to kill a solid 6-10% of the population like the spanish flu did.
fuck my 2001 Dacia Solenza 1.9 Diesel stopped working
oooof
maybe its cuz I removed the engine
But people still hate cyclists
There's no historical or scientific evidence to suggest lockdowns would have done anything at all. Given there was never really any "slow" of the spread that fact remains.
I went to a gas Truck now. I just sold my F550 over the weekend and bought a 2500HD full box, crew cab pick up from Chevy. The thing has more torque than my 2004 Ford F550
It’s reasonable to think they wanted people as miserable as possible come Election Day.
^^
Another reason for making COVID such a big deal is this:
If 90% of the voters believe a lie that there's this terrible disease killing everyone, then the president, who is a part of the intelligent 10%, will look like an idiot.
The Hong Kong protests are why we got Covid.
> There's no historical or scientific evidence to suggest lockdowns would have done anything at all. Given there was never really any "slow" of the spread that fact remains.
@SheWhoMustNotBeNamed that is because of human nature my friend. It probably slowed it a bit, BUT it also cost America a lot more than it was worth after the 2 months of shutdowns.
China was so close to being made to do something it didn't want to do by the rest of the world and then, boom. International crisis.
also I bet there have been more suicides due to depression and the economic impact than from covid itself 🙂
