Lee fought because of his home state, even though he was a Unionist

2020-11-30 07:30:35 UTC

Yes

2020-11-30 07:30:38 UTC

meh you can generalize, but being born again is different than being nominally christian

2020-11-30 07:30:41 UTC

Well general Lee hated slavery but could never betray his home state of virginia

2020-11-30 07:30:48 UTC

Ok im out.

2020-11-30 07:30:54 UTC

yeah, time to not be apart of this anymore.

2020-11-30 07:30:56 UTC

Exactly, that’s why he fought although it was kinda stupid since he could’ve went with the Union

2020-11-30 07:30:56 UTC

@tntkoren but who knows, maybe he did repent later on

2020-11-30 07:31:14 UTC

The confederate flag’s purpose is a bit of a stretch

2020-11-30 07:31:22 UTC

I feel like Lee thought they could’ve won in the early stages so that’s why he joined the South

2020-11-30 07:31:31 UTC

It does symbolize disapproval of not listening to popular sovereignty except they didn’t listen for a reason

2020-11-30 07:31:52 UTC

I mean shit, the entire, objective cause of the civil war was slavery itself

2020-11-30 07:31:53 UTC

I mean that’s why the “Don’t tread on me” flag is a thing

2020-11-30 07:32:01 UTC
2020-11-30 07:32:04 UTC

What flag is that? Isn’t it the snake thing?

2020-11-30 07:32:07 UTC

Uh, yeah?

2020-11-30 07:32:09 UTC

Means the same thing as Dixie flag but kinda watered down

2020-11-30 07:32:14 UTC

Yes it’s the snake flag

2020-11-30 07:32:18 UTC

The cause of the civil war was slavery

2020-11-30 07:32:28 UTC

@𝒫𝓇ℯ𝓈𝒾𝒹ℯ𝓃𝓉 you’re forgetting a whole bunch of policies, and the main thing was actually states rights

2020-11-30 07:32:36 UTC

A states right to what?

2020-11-30 07:32:37 UTC

Yeah, states’ rights to own slaves

2020-11-30 07:32:38 UTC

Christianity isn’t based off of works, it’s based off of faith, and yes your works reflect it, but you can still go to heaven and be a general in the confederacy, but to be clear, lee didn’t support slavery, tho many others in the confederacy did, and it was the main reason of the war in the first place, and it is why I don’t support the confederacy

2020-11-30 07:32:41 UTC

slavery was not popular at all

2020-11-30 07:32:51 UTC

states general rights

2020-11-30 07:32:51 UTC

It kinda was

2020-11-30 07:32:59 UTC

They were afraid that their right to own slaves was taken away. Slavery wasn’t popular but it was the southern American dream. That’s why everyone supported it.

2020-11-30 07:33:12 UTC

The poor whites wanted slavery so they could feel better in some way

2020-11-30 07:33:17 UTC

everyone did not support slavery man

2020-11-30 07:33:18 UTC

They wanted to one day perhaps own a slave or two. 3/4 of southern Americans

2020-11-30 07:33:24 UTC

Not everyone, but most

2020-11-30 07:33:30 UTC

Well not EVERYONE but a good portion

2020-11-30 07:33:31 UTC

Just as some northerners supported slavery

2020-11-30 07:33:33 UTC

Not everyone did, but it was the main reason behind the war

2020-11-30 07:33:40 UTC

Thank you

2020-11-30 07:33:52 UTC

Sorry meant to type not everyone did

2020-11-30 07:33:53 UTC

It absolutely was, and I’m willing to debate anyone who thinks otherwise

2020-11-30 07:34:11 UTC

Respectfully tho, I don’t want this to be heated so

2020-11-30 07:34:13 UTC

of course

2020-11-30 07:34:17 UTC

and i disagree

2020-11-30 07:34:25 UTC

And besides after the Gettysburg address and Lincoln’s second inaugurations speech, the main focus was slavery at that point
