Well not just slavery but it was one of the biggest issues

2020-11-30 07:34:52 UTC

It depends on what we're talking about.

2020-11-30 07:35:01 UTC

It wasn’t just slavery, but slavery was the biggest issue and cause that the confederate army was fighting to keep legal

2020-11-30 07:35:10 UTC

Well slavery was like a trampoline, but it was the trampoline that caused the jump for the civil war and led to the anger that the north and south felt for each other which perpetuated it more

2020-11-30 07:35:26 UTC

the tipping point of the election of abraham lincoln, and the states seceded after that

2020-11-30 07:35:29 UTC

The confederate army wanted blacks as slaves, they were fighting for their ‘states’ right’

2020-11-30 07:35:36 UTC

so that’s already one reason

2020-11-30 07:35:41 UTC

Not saying everyone supported it and their was many other reasons, but slavery was the largest divide between the two groups, most other issues could have been solved peacefully @IAN

2020-11-30 07:35:46 UTC

they wanted states rights versus federal rights

2020-11-30 07:35:49 UTC

thats another

2020-11-30 07:35:51 UTC

and yes slavery

2020-11-30 07:35:52 UTC

Yeah but why did they not want Lincoln as president? He didn’t support slavery, he was a republican

2020-11-30 07:36:07 UTC

All other causes are branches off of slavery

2020-11-30 07:36:11 UTC

Slavery was the most prominent issue dividing the groups

2020-11-30 07:36:14 UTC

actually no

2020-11-30 07:36:15 UTC

I gotta head to sleep

2020-11-30 07:36:23 UTC

Economic reasons stem from slavery. The north industrialized and the south was agriculture based and relied on slaves

2020-11-30 07:36:26 UTC

federal rights don’t branch off to just slavery

2020-11-30 07:36:28 UTC

Economically, the North was better off without slavery cause they had enough immigrants to do menial tasks and after Uncle Tom’s Cabin and all the backlash from the Fugitive slave laws so they already had some resentment to slavery

2020-11-30 07:37:07 UTC

Federal rights as in like, the government’s right to do shit? Yeah, to abolish slavery and implement it in the constitution as an amendment

2020-11-30 07:37:23 UTC

Well it gets tricky there because with the Dred Scott decision, it basically said “slavery is legal everywhere” because they are properly and federal government can’t restrict property

2020-11-30 07:37:29 UTC

I can bring back all of your points to slavery, but I just don’t understand, is your point that slavery isn’t the main cause of the war, or all the causes are equal?

2020-11-30 07:37:34 UTC

you’re forgetting the economic points

2020-11-30 07:37:44 UTC

Bruh.

2020-11-30 07:37:44 UTC

no my point is that slavery isnt the only cause

2020-11-30 07:37:56 UTC

werent you arguing about slavery being the only cause

2020-11-30 07:37:56 UTC

Yeah, but all other causes circle back to slavery

2020-11-30 07:37:59 UTC

It’s not the only cause but it’s the root cause

2020-11-30 07:38:04 UTC

It’s the root cause

2020-11-30 07:38:06 UTC

i agree with you

2020-11-30 07:38:08 UTC

???

2020-11-30 07:38:09 UTC

Slavery is the primary cause

2020-11-30 07:38:23 UTC

Oh alright then

2020-11-30 07:38:32 UTC

Nice

2020-11-30 07:38:33 UTC

i guess it was a misunderstanding lol

2020-11-30 07:38:39 UTC

I mean I guess and the unorganized Mexican territories were also a cause

2020-11-30 07:38:54 UTC

But that was because they were uncertain about whether slavery should exist there

2020-11-30 07:39:11 UTC

Yeah so

2020-11-30 07:39:14 UTC

that is true

2020-11-30 07:39:16 UTC

Remember the compromise of 1850? How they made california free soil and texas popular sovereignty?

2020-11-30 07:39:28 UTC

Pissed ‘em off, but the confederate flag still is a stretch of a symbol
