54r?

2017-11-22 16:29:21 UTC

Because I'm pretty sure 10mm of plate would take care of 99% of 7.62 x39 ammo

2017-11-22 16:29:37 UTC

and most of of 8mm ones too

2017-11-22 16:29:55 UTC

depends if you want to prevent warping%

2017-11-22 16:31:29 UTC

thoo 7.62 iirc does penetrate 8mm of RHA armor plates

2017-11-22 16:31:33 UTC

@300m

2017-11-22 16:31:36 UTC

sooo~

2017-11-22 16:31:58 UTC

or was it 7mm plates

2017-11-22 16:32:00 UTC

cant remember

2017-11-22 16:32:14 UTC

(those are for AP rounds*)

2017-11-22 16:34:16 UTC

Steel body armour in the US is about 10mm with antispall coating (truck bed liner), I think

2017-11-22 16:34:19 UTC

tho if i consider those plates would be between the outer and inner wallpanels the 7.62 would still penetrate reinforcement beams and just make the car "tincan with superball in it"

2017-11-22 16:35:27 UTC

composites cost a shitton

2017-11-22 16:35:29 UTC

Oh, nvm, you're talking about armour piercing

2017-11-22 16:35:54 UTC

aluminium alloys are option but they are not that good (only for small arms fire)

2017-11-22 16:36:18 UTC

(>implying my sprinter would ever see weapons outside of gunrange and controlled testing)

2017-11-22 16:37:10 UTC

and i dont think i can could never afford composites or DU-Composites

2017-11-22 16:38:43 UTC

If you're trying to stop armour pericong ammo you're fighting a losing battle

2017-11-22 16:39:01 UTC

i know

2017-11-22 16:39:30 UTC

but wondering how fucking heavy would AP-resistant (not proof) sprinter be

2017-11-22 16:40:45 UTC
2017-11-22 16:40:49 UTC

tho apparently RHA costs around 1k dollars for metric ton

2017-11-22 16:42:12 UTC

Think it would depend on what and how you armour

2017-11-22 16:42:46 UTC

if "slap on" plates on outer walls + extra on engineblock

2017-11-22 16:43:18 UTC

it would add quite bit of weight

2017-11-22 16:43:35 UTC

(lets not consider roof or bottom penetration a problem in this case

2017-11-22 16:43:56 UTC

Would be more worried about the frame warping from the wall weight

2017-11-22 16:44:18 UTC

yeah

2017-11-22 16:44:27 UTC

thats why i was considering the inside the walls plates instead

2017-11-22 16:44:33 UTC

sure it leave tiny "weak" caps

2017-11-22 16:44:49 UTC

but easier to hide and can be reinforced with the chassis

2017-11-22 16:48:08 UTC

You could probably get away with just armoring the cabin and engine

2017-11-22 16:49:25 UTC

probly but incase i want to make sleeping compartment behind

2017-11-22 16:49:35 UTC

id want its walls armored anyway

2017-11-22 16:56:00 UTC

tho realistic scenario in finland is only handgun and some occasional axes

2017-11-22 16:56:14 UTC

but theorycrafting is always nice

2017-11-22 17:00:14 UTC

Seems about 12mm of hardened steel is barely enough to stop a full power armour piercing round. Though anything that makes it through probably won't be doing much, especially if you coat the inside with truck bed liner https://youtu.be/hzYH8ap1TDo

2017-11-22 17:18:18 UTC

or wrap the sheets inside kevlar weave (that shit is so cheap)

2017-11-22 17:19:01 UTC

I'd be curious how good chink Kevlar is anyway.

2017-11-22 17:21:34 UTC

their bodyarmor pieces are legit afaik

2017-11-22 17:22:12 UTC

tho i can get kevlar localy
