Steel body armour in the US is about 10mm with antispall coating (truck bed liner), I think
tho if i consider those plates would be between the outer and inner wallpanels the 7.62 would still penetrate reinforcement beams and just make the car "tincan with superball in it"
composites cost a shitton
Oh, nvm, you're talking about armour piercing
aluminium alloys are option but they are not that good (only for small arms fire)
(>implying my sprinter would ever see weapons outside of gunrange and controlled testing)
and i dont think i can could never afford composites or DU-Composites
If you're trying to stop armour pericong ammo you're fighting a losing battle
i know
but wondering how fucking heavy would AP-resistant (not proof) sprinter be
tho apparently RHA costs around 1k dollars for metric ton
Think it would depend on what and how you armour
if "slap on" plates on outer walls + extra on engineblock
it would add quite bit of weight
(lets not consider roof or bottom penetration a problem in this case
Would be more worried about the frame warping from the wall weight
yeah
thats why i was considering the inside the walls plates instead
sure it leave tiny "weak" caps
You could probably get away with just armoring the cabin and engine
probly but incase i want to make sleeping compartment behind
id want its walls armored anyway
tho realistic scenario in finland is only handgun and some occasional axes
but theorycrafting is always nice
Seems about 12mm of hardened steel is barely enough to stop a full power armour piercing round. Though anything that makes it through probably won't be doing much, especially if you coat the inside with truck bed liner https://youtu.be/hzYH8ap1TDo
or wrap the sheets inside kevlar weave (that shit is so cheap)
I'd be curious how good chink Kevlar is anyway.
their bodyarmor pieces are legit afaik
tho i can get kevlar localy
"only 105 euros/meter"
:D
its fucking polyester weave what has like 18% kevlar in it
for that price
Relevant to this conversation; I want to make a THLR target but am not rich enough to pay for it and more importantly the shipping.
Current plan is to take 20mm steel and plasma cut the diameter roughly, sand it down and then put it on a lathe to get the circles.

Any way chinks could help me out?
I'd rather steal metal from my school than pay for it myself. No option to harden it though, so I guess I'll have to go for **thicc** steel. Or cover it with Kevlar? That'll get seriously messed up from 6.5x55 πΈπͺ
Yo
Anyone from EU wanna have some minerals
haha
