We can't really forget though about what sort of lobbying those companies were/are doing so that government officials comply with what they want, though. So really more government regulations wont do a thing about that if the officials are in someone's pocket. In the end, it's not a regulation issue, it's a moral issue. Lacking strict morals is what allows people to act in ways that are harmful to others, the environment, etc.

republicans oppose the TPP which has (weak) guidelines for net neutrality which dont really even make sense

therefore republicans are opposed to net neutrality

net neutrality may not be written in law in america however there is legislature by the FCC that ensures net neutrality, for what thats worth
