believe it or not, I've had some SATA cables just shit the bed out of nowhere

2018-01-02 11:03:08 UTC

my SSD kept dropping in and out and the OS would just freeze

2018-01-02 11:03:15 UTC

I'm on a laptop, and the computer recognizes the drive, and I can use it notmslly

2018-01-02 11:03:17 UTC

Normally

2018-01-02 11:03:21 UTC

But it won't let me boot to it

2018-01-02 11:03:26 UTC

On Lenovo laptop

<:chink:323022148870602752>

2018-01-02 11:03:35 UTC

Or boot to USB device

2018-01-02 11:03:45 UTC

The bootlist ONLY shows the HDD it came with

2018-01-02 11:04:17 UTC

I don't know what I'm missing. The BIOs is pretty barebones compared to my desktop

2018-01-02 11:04:32 UTC

Is there a boot BBS option in your BIOS/UEFI

2018-01-02 11:04:55 UTC

you'd need to select the SSD in that first, if so

2018-01-02 11:07:26 UTC

Nope I don't see that

2018-01-02 11:09:07 UTC

I've been at this for hours. Just installing Windows doesn't work, as it will always install on same drive (but I remember being asked back in the day...)

2018-01-02 11:09:09 UTC

I cloned it to the ssd and usb, but can't boot

2018-01-02 11:12:06 UTC

I don't remember it being this hard on all the other PC. This Lenovo is giving me issues...

2018-01-02 11:27:13 UTC

Odd indeed.

2018-01-02 11:27:32 UTC

I had zero problems at all just cloning a Windows drive using 'dd'.

2018-01-02 11:28:12 UTC

That computer doesn't use UEFI though, if that makes any difference whatsoever.

2018-01-02 11:29:19 UTC

maybe the partition wasn't marked as bootable

2018-01-02 11:29:32 UTC

depends if you dd'd the partition or the disk entirely

2018-01-02 11:30:27 UTC

The entire disk, in my case.

2018-01-02 11:31:06 UTC

Or perhaps I should say drive, as it was not a disk drive. <:thvnk:332928260004642827>

2018-01-02 11:35:51 UTC

The partition isn't marked as bootable in disk management

2018-01-02 11:36:04 UTC

Fix that then. 👍🏻

2018-01-02 11:36:23 UTC

It is active though . I can use it np

2018-01-02 11:36:33 UTC

How do I do that? Disk management ?

2018-01-02 11:36:42 UTC

maybe

2018-01-02 11:36:46 UTC

gparted has it for sure

2018-01-02 11:36:49 UTC

Fuck if I know.

2018-01-02 11:36:50 UTC

Yeah.

2018-01-02 11:36:59 UTC

There's some command line tool for Windows too.

2018-01-02 11:37:20 UTC

But I don't remember what it's called.

2018-01-02 11:37:21 UTC

not fdisk

2018-01-02 11:37:26 UTC

there was another one

2018-01-02 11:37:37 UTC

diskpart

2018-01-02 11:37:39 UTC

👍🏻

2018-01-02 11:37:49 UTC

o ya

2018-01-02 11:37:57 UTC

According to the DuckDuckGo.

2018-01-02 11:38:38 UTC

that's it
