2020-12-14 14:14:14 UTC

@Massie1223 I am not, I am here to learn law.

2020-12-14 14:14:57 UTC

no im a firearms instructor thats lived in Wisconsin for 40 years

2020-12-14 14:14:58 UTC

And Rittenhouse is an interesting case. I am not here not learn anyones opinion, with the exception of professionals.

2020-12-14 14:15:43 UTC

And there was me thinking you were fond of my opinion at times @Doc

2020-12-14 14:16:11 UTC

@Beth I am! But we all regard you as special. Every rule has an exception. 😄

2020-12-14 14:17:25 UTC

😄 Good answer @Doc 😉

2020-12-14 14:23:23 UTC

thats fairly accurate,....

2020-12-14 14:23:55 UTC

Defenses to prosecution under this statute:

Target practice under the supervision of an adult
Members of armed forces or police under 18 in the line of duty
Hunting (either with an adult or having passed hunter's safety)
The minor was 16 years of age or older, not in violation of laws on short-barreled rifles or shotguns, and was in compliance with regulations on hunting, if hunting

2020-12-14 14:25:06 UTC

a key part is the last if you are hunting, the law isnt just for hunting like some seem to think, the silly Kenosha DA said that, and they are just parroting him

2020-12-14 14:27:45 UTC

also if you are age 14-16 you can possess a rifle or shotgun, but only if you have taken hunters safety, hunters safety is a training requirement for CCW here also

2020-12-14 14:29:03 UTC

thats probably why some conflate it with just hunting

2020-12-14 14:32:40 UTC

Came across this video last night and finally watched it earlier this morning. A pretty solid breakdown of the chain of events with some extra background information. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3IaFV_l2-k&bpctr=1607953168

2020-12-14 14:34:00 UTC

yeah ive watched many, pretty clear self defense imo

2020-12-14 14:35:23 UTC

oh wow a lefty Bernie voter, should be interesting

2020-12-14 14:36:33 UTC

He has some bias in the text in the vide between clips, some assumptions, and some bias that's easily noticeable, but I believe he was pretty fair and even-up in his breakdown.

2020-12-14 14:36:33 UTC

@DeathRhodes666, you just advanced to level 5!

2020-12-14 14:37:14 UTC

thanks for sharing it

2020-12-14 14:37:59 UTC

No problem 🙂

2020-12-14 14:46:22 UTC

Thanks Doc. I'm just concerned we are losing site of what got Rittenhouse in the situation so many are talking about. He is in that situation because lawless people have been engaged in attacking lawful citizens all in an attempt to overthrow democracy.

2020-12-14 14:46:22 UTC

@Massie1223, you just advanced to level 2!

2020-12-14 14:51:47 UTC

@Massie1223 The world is polyfactorial for causality. He is also there because he wanted to be someone and did not understand that being someone takes years of training.

2020-12-14 14:52:44 UTC

and I have never seen a democracy in my life, so I dont really understand what there is to overthrow. But that discussion will have to go into <#772982351520333824>

2020-12-14 14:54:34 UTC

Thanks Doc. A teenager is somebody. I personally understood love lawfulness, respect and unity better at 16. Today those characteristics are muddled

2020-12-14 14:54:35 UTC

he did fine, speaking from someone who has years of training

2020-12-14 14:55:59 UTC

He did fine in the role as "armed teenager being chased down the street and forced to defend himself" - I agree. But that was perhaps not the role he had in mind?

2020-12-14 14:56:07 UTC

maybe it was luck, but he handled things pretty well, kinda silly to be there in the first place.. but when good ppl fail to act evil prevails

2020-12-14 14:56:40 UTC

he was being chased because he killed an attacker in self defense

2020-12-14 14:57:52 UTC

he did handle himself well, which leads me to believe he had good, quality training. I believe there was a picture of his parents floating around when this happened and his parents looked well-equipped themselves.

2020-12-14 14:57:59 UTC

shot fired in the air, something thrown at him, verbal threats, and literally hand on his weapon

2020-12-14 14:59:13 UTC

important thing was his 2 point sling so it was not easy to disarm him or it be used against him

2020-12-14 14:59:48 UTC

better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6

2020-12-14 16:10:33 UTC

"The minor was 16 years of age or older, not in violation of laws on short-barreled rifles or shotguns, and was in compliance with regulations on hunting, if hunting" Yes, this only solidifies my point.

2020-12-14 16:10:57 UTC

You're missing the point where the statute says "or not in compliance"

2020-12-14 16:11:07 UTC

To be in compliance with hunting regulations, guess what?

2020-12-14 16:11:12 UTC

You must be hunting.

2020-12-14 16:12:06 UTC

This idea that "Anyone under the age of 18 may not possess a deadly weapon" just being completely redundant is quite honestly, ridiculous.

2020-12-14 16:13:04 UTC

"Anyone under the age of 18 may not possess a deadly weapon" is the rule.

2020-12-14 16:13:12 UTC

Hunting clauses are an exception.

2020-12-14 16:14:39 UTC

You can try to rely on "ah yes, but the law is only confusing for average folk and I know better" all you want, but you're performing a lot of mental gymnastics to get there.
