Republicans have done dumb things, so have Dems. The counter argument to your statement is that though one side may be more prominent for a period, as an entity both parties are represented and responsible.

@james j can you explain to me the main difference between conservative and liberal values? Is it more social ideals that differentiate them because they seem to be the same on the spending/ war-mongering front.

@gaBe conservatives values are more insular , short sighted, intuitive , status quo centric. Liberal values are more inclusive to new ideas, they constantly want to fine tune current paradigms, they are willing to change paradigms for better results, they take a more holistic approach to society and how it should be governed
