I wanted to take the old gun if my grandpa into Switzerland
So I was reading the laws around it
Switzerland has a list of nationalities that are not allowed to own guns
kek
quite weird list at that
I'm trying to figure out how this list was compiled
russian-related countries
quite simply
and or crime paradises (sri lanka)
Found it, that list exists since the Balkan wars
lel
No idea how Sri Lanka made it on there though
could it be that their "gun laws" are so outdated/bad
that its added there for good measure
afaik places like sri lanka god proper gun laws just "recently"
@porco Feels a bit weird letting foreigners own guns though, wouldn't you say?
and before that it was "everything is fine"
@kontroll only if you have a C Bewilligung, which means that you have been living in Switzerland for 6 years if you are EU citizen, or 11 years if you aren't
i mean.. think a guy from switzerland or finland or hell even UK (>guns >uk choose one)
@Tervy Feels like something that would be reserved for nationals, if anything.
nah many sane reasons to own gun tbh
hunting,competitions,sports, etc
C Bewilligung is the step before obtaining the nationality
and guns are usualy quite heavily taxed too
People who have C, usually obtain the nationality at some point
I will have C either next year or in two years, depends on how good I'll do in the interviews
Still... I'm not keen on people in general owning guns, so having ostensibly armed foreign nationals...
Eh.
I can see it being a somewhat reasonable thing in the C Bewilligung case.
Well you can buy the gun but you can't obtain ammunition

You have to register every shot fired iirc
Yeah?
thats just ouright silly
I didn't read that far yet
With different arrangements for gun ranges then, presumably.
I will be able to tell you in some hours
