They might only record when you're talking into the earphone because it's not using the mic for some reason, have you tried with a phone that has support for a single 3.5mm jack with mic and headphones?

Because it seems like they're just acting like a microphone, like any other speaker/headphone you plug into the mic jack

But yeah, glad to hear, I'm using an old chink headset over my neck as a mic for voip because the speakers in it are busted, want to get rid of it as soon as my zircons arrive

my brother uses a 2i2 and gets noise on his cheap bm 800 mic, but my mackie onyx doesnt. buy it new so it can be returned if it has issues with your mic

2i2 has 48v phantom power according to Focusrite

yeah i just saw it on the spec sheet, missed it the first time

dynamic range is a lot lower than the onyx though
