The VPU/GPU in Raspberry Pi

2016-08-20 22:48:20 UTC

Is the Broadcome Videocore IV right

2016-08-20 22:48:33 UTC

Well the ARM old-style GPU, the so-called Mali one used in cheap phones etc

2016-08-20 22:48:37 UTC

That's not good for emulation

2016-08-20 22:49:04 UTC

The issue is difference in some important parts of how it works

2016-08-20 22:50:02 UTC

oh

2016-08-20 22:50:17 UTC

It's excellent for headless use though

2016-08-20 22:50:30 UTC

and I'm not saying it's impossible

2016-08-20 22:50:37 UTC

So

2016-08-20 22:50:45 UTC

but its not worth all the extra hassle compared to getting one with Videocore IV

2016-08-20 22:50:49 UTC

In other words, you cucked up

2016-08-20 22:50:52 UTC

Are you saying the Orange Pi PC is better?

2016-08-20 22:51:03 UTC

I don't have a raspberry though

2016-08-20 22:51:06 UTC

I am saying that the GPU in Orange Pi PC is different from the one used in RPi

2016-08-20 22:51:08 UTC

Never implied I did

2016-08-20 22:51:10 UTC

Which is Videocore IV

2016-08-20 22:51:20 UTC

And all the emulator guys are making it for that one

2016-08-20 22:51:35 UTC

So that's good?

2016-08-20 22:52:02 UTC

It's good for the RPi that they have a more sophisticated GPU even though I dislike how closed it is and how much hack people use to hardware accelerate

2016-08-20 22:52:10 UTC

But for you it willl be hard to run emulation

2016-08-20 22:52:19 UTC

since nobody is going to make support for the Mali one

2016-08-20 22:52:27 UTC

Any sort of emulation?

2016-08-20 22:53:43 UTC

you need a class 10 sdcard too

2016-08-20 22:53:50 UTC

but thats pretty self explanatory

2016-08-20 22:54:41 UTC

any slow cards in dev boards is hell

2016-08-20 22:54:48 UTC

remember that you are running the whole thing on a sdcard

2016-08-20 22:54:54 UTC

which could easily be designed just for storing shit

2016-08-20 22:54:57 UTC

and being cheap

2016-08-20 22:55:03 UTC

How big was your shark?

2016-08-20 22:55:08 UTC

64

2016-08-20 22:55:12 UTC

Ahhh that's very big

2016-08-20 22:55:19 UTC

I had hoped it was smaller, might still work we will see

2016-08-20 22:55:31 UTC

could be it doesnt support that big size too would suck

2016-08-20 22:55:37 UTC

16gb one has been working fine here

2016-08-20 22:55:40 UTC

I have a 32 aswell

2016-08-20 22:55:59 UTC

Well, what do I use the orange pi for then?

2016-08-20 22:56:14 UTC

If I can't use it for any emulation

2016-08-20 22:56:23 UTC

Its good for headless use

2016-08-20 22:56:30 UTC

which is what I do

2016-08-20 22:56:49 UTC

basically plug it in internet have it run whatever you want

2016-08-20 22:56:59 UTC

like running chink coupon script
