my bad

2019-08-24 13:55:10 UTC

he has a whale but isn't in Wales

2019-08-24 13:58:00 UTC

is it worth it getting a 5ghz router

2019-08-24 13:58:06 UTC

2019-08-24 14:00:07 UTC

If you have fast internet

2019-08-24 14:02:46 UTC

if you consider 80-90 megabit fast

2019-08-24 14:02:58 UTC

generaly yes if you have wireless network devices what support it and are used in scenarios what need speed

2019-08-24 14:03:19 UTC

for tablets and such they are irrelevant pretty much

2019-08-24 14:03:29 UTC

but for laptops etc they actualy might have some benefits

2019-08-24 14:05:00 UTC

I mostly use a laptop and my current phone which is mi 9t

2019-08-24 14:05:22 UTC

Laptop will probably see difference unless its old like mine

2019-08-24 14:05:39 UTC

On my phone I didn't notice any difference

2019-08-24 14:06:00 UTC

and you wont be (hopefully) transfering such amounts of data that the benefit actualy shows

2019-08-24 14:06:23 UTC

who ever does FTP/Torrents on their phone should be beaten to hell and so on and so forth

2019-08-24 14:06:52 UTC

Only thing I noticed on my phone was shittier connection coverage

2019-08-24 14:06:54 UTC

(obviously emerency FTP stuff is normalish)

2019-08-24 14:07:07 UTC

I am more interested in streaming on my laptop and phone tbh

2019-08-24 14:07:16 UTC

yeah 5.whatever ghz has quite bit worse penetration

2019-08-24 14:07:51 UTC

higher freq = worse penetration?

2019-08-24 14:07:58 UTC

Yes

2019-08-24 14:08:03 UTC

yes*

2019-08-24 14:08:10 UTC

*some exemptions apply

2019-08-24 14:08:30 UTC

Cut out a coke can to strengthen coverage in one direction

2019-08-24 14:08:40 UTC

2019-08-24 14:08:42 UTC

^dont

2019-08-24 14:11:09 UTC

also if you mean streaming stuff your normal "N" network is good enough for almost any stuff

2019-08-24 14:11:30 UTC

I don't know if my laptop will support 5ghz

2019-08-24 14:12:15 UTC

also torrenting stuff when I am too lazy to get up and go to my desktop

2019-08-24 14:13:47 UTC

nvm it might work

2019-08-24 14:15:32 UTC

basically I have a 2.4ghz router/modem provided by my internet provider in my living room but I want to get another 5ghz router so I can be lazy and torrent and stream stuff in bed on my laptop or just stream stuff on my phone (in the highest possible quality obviously)

2019-08-24 14:18:38 UTC

If you have a modem/router combo then you should benefit from having a dedicated router, yes

2019-08-24 14:19:09 UTC

Unless you have a good combo unit but usually isps don't provide good ones
