I use Ubuntu so this is it.

2019-09-01 18:31:30 UTC

Because I haven't yet put in the effort to learn Linux right.

2019-09-01 18:31:40 UTC

Ubuntu Master Race, there's no need to use a more complicated distribution really

2019-09-01 18:31:40 UTC

dumb

2019-09-01 18:31:45 UTC

Not a single reason

2019-09-01 18:31:48 UTC

@Billy Yum Yum Two-By-Two you need to stop

2019-09-01 18:31:51 UTC

It's too heavy for my '09 shitter

2019-09-01 18:32:09 UTC

It would be better to learn GNU/Linux and sort out my own shit.

2019-09-01 18:32:14 UTC

everything is fine

2019-09-01 18:32:21 UTC

At some point <:blobthinkingeyes:427568214579609601>

2019-09-01 18:32:24 UTC

the tabs are under control

2019-09-01 18:32:32 UTC

@Billy Yum Yum Two-By-Two That is not fine <:blobhyperthink:427568506905559040>

2019-09-01 18:32:51 UTC

You can just use xubuntu as a start. Xubuntu OOB RAM requirements are around 200 MB idle. There's no fucking way you can go significantly lower on arch with xfce

2019-09-01 18:33:01 UTC

Xubuntu really just includes the minimum and does a great job at it

2019-09-01 18:33:06 UTC

well what should i do instead of my tab system

2019-09-01 18:33:30 UTC

How about some sqlite database with FTS4 and a browser addon to access it?

2019-09-01 18:33:42 UTC

Yeah but I need proprietary drivers for my shittop to work but still haven't learned how all that shit works, it requires some learning curve

2019-09-01 18:34:16 UTC

Debian has a nonfree iso with all obscure shit drivers included

2019-09-01 18:34:33 UTC

I have a tab in this hell browser with the installgentoo wiki on it; I'm gonna read through that coming up.

2019-09-01 18:34:35 UTC

You basically just put it on a USB stick and plug it in during install

2019-09-01 18:34:38 UTC

It's magic

2019-09-01 18:35:33 UTC

Unless you have a super specific use case, Gentoo and Arch won't give you a more stable or reliable system than Ubuntu. Just keep that in mind. Old hardware is also not a specific use case

2019-09-01 18:36:13 UTC

That, and I've been thinking that maybe I try Android x86 instead and make the toaster a grocery list mule for the kitchen. It's a convertible tablet (you know the kind) so that would be nice. Still gotta learn how driver fuckery works since the given build of Android x86 can't boot, and I would need to compile my own kernel by the sound of things.

2019-09-01 18:36:39 UTC

Isn't there an Android fork optimized for x86 and mouse input?

2019-09-01 18:36:43 UTC

It wasn't android x86

2019-09-01 18:36:50 UTC

It had another name

2019-09-01 18:36:56 UTC

It was somewhere on the pine forums

2019-09-01 18:37:05 UTC

Thanks for the advice. I still want to learn some of the specifics, so I can more easily handle issues and unusual installations.

2019-09-01 18:37:08 UTC

Fuck I even tried it out on VirtualBox once and I loved it

2019-09-01 18:37:18 UTC

No, I WANT the touch since this is an old convertible tablet.

2019-09-01 18:37:24 UTC

Ah

2019-09-01 18:37:30 UTC

Sure

2019-09-01 18:37:56 UTC

But it's a convertible laptop, so with normal Android you'll only enjoy it in tablet mode

2019-09-01 18:37:58 UTC

I'd mount it to the wall and use touch input plus an online list app for grocery stuff, and maybe have it run news and weather alers in the meantime.

2019-09-01 18:38:00 UTC

With that, it can be both

2019-09-01 18:38:05 UTC

It was really meant for convertibles

2019-09-01 18:38:21 UTC

If you're interested dig through the pine forums. Otherwise go with android

2019-09-01 18:38:22 UTC
