for example you need to edit something while using CNC what you realised while there
laptop next to you what can open the software required and do all of it right there and now
or whatever remote box what you need first start vpn, connect, start software, think why the fuck you cant directly send the data, find usb stick for said data, download it first from remote desktop to machine you are using to remote into said desktop
then move the file either via usb stick or hope that it can boot the software just so you can send it to cnc via cable
ohh.. and paying from 2 software licenses instead of 1
I assume you're talking about profesionnal CNC right? Not hobbyist?
just cnc hobbyist of professional
at least here is machine shop what lets you run CNC stuff as hobbyist too (for the cost)
I'm gonna assume you meant to say "or" and not "of"
yeah or*
Hobbyist and pro are very, *very* different contexts for CNC
i know
If you're going to have to do that for "10+ hours," you've fucked up. Hard. But sure, it's a reasonable scenario for a quick fix.
but both have similar needs for right there and now changes without extra jumps
As a hobbyist you could go with a single desktop because you only have one/a bunch of machine to control, not a huge fucking factory
thats why beefy business laptops are
^ business? 😉
business laptops as line
And maybe a laptop to do adjustment if, let's say, your setup is far from your computer
If it's pro, then it's a whole different story
:D
😉 😉 😉
In that case, yeah, using a high end laptop is gonna be acceptable *but* usually those are expensive as fuck
also as hobbyist your desktop would be at home not at that random rented carage/hall where you need it
Yes. Unreasonably expensive as far as I'm concerned.
Yeah, that's why I said a main desktop and a remote cheap laptop for additionnal stuff
^
used business laptops cost sub 1000 easily
Sure it might not be the greatest experience ever
But compared to a laptop that's gonna cost you more than twice that setup
Well...
I disagree on that point
But, in all fairness, people are willing to compromise in areas I'm unwilling to, and vice versa.
Thinkpad hrs
Business laptop with a discreet and pro GPU is gonna rip your ass IF you compare it fairly with a comparable desktop setup
Even used
I'm entirely willing to compromise and use a relatively old laptop for mobility purposes, and have a lovely ol' desktop doing all the heavy lifting when needed.
Meanwhile, mostly women are willing to forego the desktop entirely and rely on an overpriced fruit themed laptop. For convenience...?
laptops are built for mobility
