but indeed i knew what system it was and copy pasting text from phone screen to command line is way easier

2019-08-02 16:28:18 UTC

but sure i would not let my mum search apps on her own

2019-08-02 16:29:03 UTC

i mean she has "files, help, phone, internet, mail, radio" shortcuts on desktop

2019-08-02 16:29:27 UTC

and so far i get calls only if something major has porkked after automated update script

2019-08-02 16:29:39 UTC

so rarely than once a year

2019-08-02 16:29:57 UTC

most of the time computer is not even on when the update check is supposed to go off so...

2019-08-02 16:30:47 UTC

but i agree that for more computer illiterate generations its indeed easier for them to use GUI

2019-08-02 16:31:00 UTC

tervy has a mom?

2019-08-02 16:32:45 UTC

ok you can bring on your anecdotes that your mom can handle linux "then everyone should be able to".

However if you claim linux is more user friendly than windows/OSX you're just delusional.

2019-08-02 16:32:56 UTC

but considering generic OS-base programs what stuff like ubuntu, mintmanjaro, elementary, fedora have id say they rarely even need to install extra

2019-08-02 16:33:13 UTC

@Phatique i did not claim it in any point tho ?

2019-08-02 16:33:53 UTC

i claimed they have come long way what they used to be on userfriendliness

2019-08-02 16:34:28 UTC

to the point standard people(old and young) sometimes(it happens) even prefer them when given chance to test them

2019-08-02 16:35:13 UTC

where it used to be "too confusing/ugly/afraid of change"

2019-08-02 16:35:33 UTC

hardest part is the setup for all new enviroment for people

2019-08-02 16:36:34 UTC

they dont know the linux world programs that well (Specialy if they want separate mail client/use only what came with the OS)

2019-08-02 16:38:08 UTC

but if they are people who have used VLC,Firefox/chrome/vivaldi/whatever,skype,spotify,itunes,dropbox etc for their whole life

2019-08-02 16:38:12 UTC

that all is still familiar to them

2019-08-02 16:38:18 UTC

it just needs to be installed and setup

2019-08-02 16:38:54 UTC

(itunes ofc being the hardest enemy from that list)

2019-08-02 16:40:54 UTC

but usualy its just some niche stuff they are used to use on windows on the people who turn back (or certain work programs like office tool required to be X )

2019-08-02 16:42:08 UTC

but that just my own notes along years i have given people systems to test and what people most complain

2019-08-02 16:42:29 UTC

but fixing wise both are hell on for average user anyway

2019-08-02 16:42:43 UTC

you cant expect windows user to go to registry to flip bits or device manager to roll back drivers, or find bluescreen reasons or or or its all just different kinds of pains

2019-08-02 16:52:04 UTC

Tl;dr

2019-08-02 17:52:56 UTC

just use windows

2019-08-02 17:52:59 UTC

it Just Works

2019-08-03 00:11:12 UTC

@Tervy one problem with that theory

2019-08-03 00:11:14 UTC

office

2019-08-03 00:11:56 UTC

the entire office suite is a mess in Wine, LibreOffice is dogshit, and Google Docs is too radical for boomers to get used to

2019-08-03 01:03:41 UTC

You can use Microsoft suite online

2019-08-03 07:02:58 UTC

Office online is ok

2019-08-03 07:18:24 UTC

(its not)

2019-08-03 07:18:38 UTC

microsoft online suite is worst piece of crap in history of coding

2019-08-03 07:18:57 UTC

specialy with "you can edit same document same time" bullshit what never works

2019-08-03 07:19:07 UTC

does openoffice work

2019-08-03 07:19:15 UTC

and their permission hell needs doctorate to understand and work with

2019-08-03 07:19:54 UTC

i partialy agree with droidbot if that in you focus only on office_suites_ there is no perfect option for linux

2019-08-03 07:20:50 UTC

but separate programs from there and there are better than anything on linux world while libreoffice is slowly getting there(also last time i checked Calligra works darn nicely even tho UI is not the 1:1 copy)

tldr: `` for every single processor sold by Intel, AMD sold four. ``
