I've looked into IKEA's tradfri but for my usecase (multiple bulbs + HASS support) I'd either have to go all DIY with a zigbee usb receiver or buy the additional $40 hub

2019-09-28 21:44:54 UTC

figured yeelight was a better option since I already had two

2019-09-28 21:45:12 UTC

yes yes but this assumes you already have a smart home system, I don't and I don't want to set one up

2019-09-28 21:45:24 UTC

as far as I looked there is no physical remote such as the IKEA one

2019-09-28 21:45:27 UTC

for yeetlights

2019-09-28 21:45:30 UTC

sad

2019-09-28 21:45:55 UTC

yeelight is supported by xiaomi's smarthome stuff though

2019-09-28 21:46:03 UTC

you can control them using aqara switches for example

2019-09-28 21:46:15 UTC

but that does bring the requirement of a gateway hub

2019-09-28 21:46:22 UTC

So what do the yeelights connect to?

2019-09-28 21:46:26 UTC

wifi

2019-09-28 21:48:35 UTC

@Cole you'll want to go with tradfri bulbs then I guess

2019-09-28 21:48:47 UTC

they don't require a hub if all you want to do is control it via physical remotes

2019-09-28 21:49:00 UTC

I have one and I like the physical remote BUT I'd also welcome phone control

2019-09-28 21:49:02 UTC

I think controlling them via google assistant/ikea app does require their hub

2019-09-28 21:49:07 UTC

smart market doesn't cater to me reeeeeee

2019-09-28 21:49:13 UTC

oh then just get the ikea hub

2019-09-28 21:49:29 UTC

yeah but that's like what, 30 euro for this one smaaaaaaaaaall use case that I have

2019-09-28 21:52:01 UTC

pretty much all remotes are BLE/zigbee based so that won't really work with yeelight bulbs out of the box

2019-09-28 21:55:14 UTC

@Cole there's also philips hue if you're a rich piece of shit

2019-09-28 21:55:49 UTC

those bulbs go for like $40 each because fuck your shit

2019-09-28 21:55:59 UTC

I do not understand why they're so expensive

2019-09-28 21:56:24 UTC

Because people will pay it

2019-09-28 21:56:32 UTC

yeah fuck everything about that I'd rather pull out another unused lightbulb from the fucking 80's from my cellar

2019-09-28 22:04:12 UTC

sonuva bitch apparently the xiaomi gateway supports tradfri too

2019-09-28 22:04:35 UTC

based

2019-09-28 22:04:43 UTC

yeah I heard about that working but you needed some workarounds?

2019-09-28 22:04:47 UTC

guess I'll have to pick up some tradfri e14 bulbs tomorrow

2019-09-28 22:04:48 UTC

no idea

2019-09-28 22:05:08 UTC

please post when you figure it out, kinda interested

2019-09-28 22:05:26 UTC

I'll pick one up tomorrow for my bedlight

2019-09-28 22:05:47 UTC

shit if this works I can replace some bulbs in my kitchen too

2019-09-28 22:09:27 UTC

@🚂Quatroking🚂 (🇳🇱) i don't think it does

2019-09-28 22:09:43 UTC

i just noticed ikea lights in the mijia app though

2019-09-28 22:09:49 UTC

it's on their "add device" list

2019-09-28 22:10:00 UTC

ikea and xiaomi partnered a few months back

2019-09-28 22:10:07 UTC

but it was for different devices afaik

2019-09-28 22:10:50 UTC

Is Xiaomi going to be directly credited, or are they acting as a whitebox

2019-09-28 22:11:37 UTC

```In the Xiaomii Home App (formerly Mi Home App) the first smart lamps of the Swedish furniture giant can now be selected, at least if you have selected the server “Mainland China” within the app.```
2019-09-28 22:12:01 UTC
```Although the entire Smart-Home lighting from IKEA’s product range is to be compatible with the voice control of the Mi Home App, Mijia App and Xiao AI, there are currently only five IKEA lamps in the Mi Home App. It is likely to be slow to take off and more smart home products will follow over time. The lamps are simple illuminants of the “TRÅDFRI product line”, of which two are equipped with E26, one with E12 and two with GU10 socket.```
