Makes me wonder though how would a disk shape benefit the design of a disk. My guess would be rotation for artificial gravity, but that would make the disks like a mile long to prevent the "seasickness" basically from rotating really fast

the disk shape helps guide the gravitational field directed by the gravity amplifiers. They dont require a form of constant rotation to achieve artificial gravity.

You cant amplify something negatively

when the gravity amplifiers are guided through the gravity emitters, it causes a gravitational distortion around the craft. the distortion is what causes the craft to essentially lift off of the ground. its a weird sort of interaction between gravity A and gravity B waves because of how it phase-shifts.
