@Citizen Z I disagree that it is easily provable or even common sense. I don't think there is something about a sphere earth which violates common sense.

The essence of the problem here is how we interpret what we see, over water this is extra tricky because it will essentially change everyday you observe something. One day maybe 50 percent of an object is obscured, say 60 feet, on another day that might be 30 and on rare occasions the whole thing is seemingly visible.

But I think only sticking to these water tests are kind of an overly restrictive thing, if we can show that earth most likely is a sphere then it follows that water is most likely curved.

@Citizen Z My point is that if you start out with the assumption that water cannot curve, you can post-hoc rationalize all the data (if your definitions of things are rather vauge) to fit the bill.
