just not very close

2019-09-14 14:45:41 UTC

i dont

2019-09-14 14:46:08 UTC

well to be precise it should be close to 100% certainty that there is other life outside of earth but not that they have visited us

2019-09-14 14:46:27 UTC

well they have to be very far away

2019-09-14 14:46:33 UTC

probably

2019-09-14 14:46:48 UTC

but life includes also single celled organisms and stuff

2019-09-14 14:46:53 UTC

true

2019-09-14 14:47:06 UTC

technologicly advanced civilizations should be rather rare

2019-09-14 14:47:21 UTC

i always found the fermi paradox fascinating

2019-09-14 14:47:35 UTC

my best guess is that the big filter will be ai for us

2019-09-14 14:47:38 UTC

but who knows

2019-09-14 14:47:40 UTC

fermi paradox

2019-09-14 14:47:40 UTC

maybe we get lucky

2019-09-14 14:47:50 UTC

ok

2019-09-14 14:48:05 UTC

if u dno what it is u should google it it is quite fascinating to read

2019-09-14 14:48:15 UTC

ok i will

2019-09-14 16:14:48 UTC

so boring

2019-09-14 16:51:46 UTC

@negatic Independent variable would be the boats

2019-09-14 16:52:03 UTC

Dependent variable would be the way it looks

2019-09-14 21:10:30 UTC

@negatic If an AI is able to stop a full alien civilization and destroying it, it would be strong enough to conquer it's galaxy easily. Sorta like the matrix

2019-09-14 21:14:30 UTC

If it can rebel against it's masters, it would need to have some kind of consciousness and self awareness. This AI would be far more capable than it's alien counterparts if it successfully destroyed them meaning that it's optimal choice would be to conquer everything. 2 trillion galaxies and not one form or shape of aliens? Come on

2019-09-14 21:49:19 UTC

that thinking has gaps

2019-09-14 21:49:46 UTC

ai dont need consciousness for that nor does it need to have an ambition to conquer the universe

2019-09-14 21:50:18 UTC

@Teddy that thinking has gaps
ai dont need consciousness for that nor does it need to have an ambition to conquer the universe

2019-09-14 21:51:28 UTC

@Teddy there is a widly used example of the ai that has to solve the rimann hypothesis it might destroy humanity in the process cause it needs more resources but once its fulfilled its function it would cease any action

2019-09-14 21:52:32 UTC

@Teddy the thinking of needing to protect itself and destroying humanity dont need any feelings it kind of develops as necessity from the function its given

2019-09-14 21:53:04 UTC

If it can destroy a civilization then it should be easy for them to get all the resources and expand.

2019-09-14 21:53:07 UTC

@Teddy thats why the friendly ai problem is so hard its very hard to find a way for an ai to do something while also caring for the same things we do

2019-09-14 21:53:18 UTC

yes

2019-09-14 21:53:32 UTC

but there would be no need to expand anymore once it solved the problem

2019-09-14 21:53:43 UTC

it would just print out the solution and shut down

2019-09-14 21:53:52 UTC

similar to a computer solving a problem and finishing

2019-09-14 21:54:04 UTC

it would simply destroy humanity in the process as byproduct

2019-09-14 21:54:18 UTC

no ill will just happend to be the anthill in the way of a highway

2019-09-14 21:54:43 UTC

if a computer had conciousness the story might be different tho

2019-09-14 21:54:52 UTC

of if the order is to colonize the universe

2019-09-14 21:55:29 UTC

basically the first ai clever enough is also the last we produce

2019-09-14 21:55:37 UTC

2019-09-14 21:55:48 UTC

and if it has the wrong goal we are f d

2019-09-14 21:56:02 UTC

no response?

2019-09-14 21:57:34 UTC

anyway the fermi paradox kind of builds on the premise that u have a civilization that colonizes the galaxy within like 100 000 years and the fact we are not colonized is the curious strange thing since that means that in our galaxy noone has ever started the process yet
