Hello. I personally do not believe in the flat earth but joined this server primarily to both learn what it is that flat earthers believe and to maybe discuss some of the stuff people who think the earth is a globe like myself believe. I promise I'm not going to be a jerk or anything like that. I know several other globe earth believers can be hostile but trust me I come in peace.

i belive the white man is trying to hold us down by telling us the earth is round

2019-10-22 21:20:55 UTC

Its not the WHITE MANS fault you dolt

2019-10-22 21:21:52 UTC

@MallardDuckAZ what is it that you seek from us?

2019-10-22 21:23:02 UTC

2019-10-22 21:25:26 UTC

2019-10-22 21:25:42 UTC

hello its 2019

@A Search for Roche's Rifle just a friendly discussion. The biggest issue with both politics and scientific issues like the flat earth/globe earth is that for the most part neither party is willing to consider the other sides perspective and there is a lot of toxicity between groups. I’m hoping that by by discussing things in a friendly way can allow both parties to learn from each other rather than by creating hatred between them

"The last time anyone took a photograph from above low Earth orbit that showed an entire hemisphere (one side of a globe) was in 1972 during Apollo 17. NASA’s Earth Observing System (EOS) satellites were designed to give a check-up of Earth’s health. By 2002, we finally had enough data to make a snap shot of the entire Earth. So we did. The hard part was creating a flat map of the Earth’s surface with four months’ of satellite data. Reto Stockli, now at the Swiss Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology, did much of this work. Then we wrapped the flat map around a ball. My part was integrating the surface, clouds, and oceans to match people’s expectations of how Earth looks from space. That ball became the famous Blue Marble.

I was happy with it but had no idea how widespread it would become. We never thought it would become an icon. I certainly never thought that I would become “Mr. Blue Marble.”

We have since updated the base maps by increasing the resolution and, for 2004, we made a series of monthly maps."

2019-10-22 21:31:09 UTC

correct

2019-10-22 21:31:59 UTC

since when does a composite copy and pastes clouds? 🤔

2019-10-22 21:32:17 UTC

1972

2019-10-22 21:32:22 UTC

lol

2019-10-22 21:36:01 UTC

Any modern phone can can take a panoramic picture with no errors but when NASA does it, it accidentally copy and paste clouds. Seems credible to me, it's your choice to believe in it tho.

2019-10-22 21:36:22 UTC

there do not exist any photographs of a single hemisphere of earth since 1972

2019-10-22 21:37:04 UTC

You do realize according to NASA Low Earth Orbit is pretty close to earth and the satellite wouldn’t be able to see much of earth all at once.

2019-10-22 21:37:29 UTC

I'm aware of that, they take multiple images of earth and stitch them together. They didn't even admit that they fucked up in the processing of the image which created the copy and paste of clouds effect.

2019-10-22 21:37:52 UTC

oops

2019-10-22 21:37:54 UTC

They thought people wouldn't notice lol.

2019-10-22 21:37:58 UTC

i dont mind the bad photoshop

2019-10-22 21:38:03 UTC

hey why didnt u get a bad word warning

2019-10-22 21:38:11 UTC

Nasa is doing such a sloppy job

2019-10-22 21:39:13 UTC

Also NASA does have some photos of earth that assuming NASA actually did send astronauts to space were taken from Apollo Rockets on their way to the moon

2019-10-22 21:39:25 UTC

yeah but the quality sucks

@Logrian that guy isn't getting paid enough lol, with his sloppy job i wonder if he got fired

2019-10-22 21:40:37 UTC

well they thought it was good enough for the apple wallpaper

2019-10-22 21:40:45 UTC

maybe u should show them what good photoshop skills looks like?

2019-10-22 21:51:14 UTC

One thing I would like to bring up is the earths celestial poles. On a flat earth, there could only be One Celestial Pole on our planet. However on a globe there would be 2. Therefore if we were to go to the southern hemisphere and find a second celestial pole wouldn’t the earth have to be a globe

2019-10-22 21:51:38 UTC

There is no second pole

2019-10-22 21:52:00 UTC

If there is. It can still be flat

2019-10-22 21:52:17 UTC

All compasses point north

2019-10-22 21:52:46 UTC

Using a compass in Antarctica is tricky also from what ive read

2019-10-22 21:52:55 UTC

It still points north tho

2019-10-22 21:53:23 UTC

A celestial pole is the point where the earths rotation relative to the stars is visible it’s not related to compasses and magnets @Citizen Z

2019-10-22 21:53:45 UTC

Ahh yes i see you said celestial now

2019-10-22 21:53:47 UTC

My bad
