I think a discussion needs to be had about what is the appropriate amount of skepticism.
Obviously I have faith that I exist, etc. But beyond that... who knows?

When the evidence is overwhelming against something that’s when the skepticism needs to calm down

That's weird. The same pattern is observed of christianity. Faith for one idea, and skepticism for contrary evidence.
When science is contrary to the long-held beliefs of christians, those christians believe the science to be incorrect.
