TEACHER FACING DEPORTATION: Min Wang says the visa that has allowed her work in the U.S. expired, so she applied for two different options to stay. One of the options she was denied is known as the “Einstein visa,” which is what allowed Melania Trump to gain legal residency.

new initiative in San Jose, California is aiming to combat the city's growing litter problem while helping homeless people get back on their feet.

Starting in November, San Jose will pay more than a dozen homeless residents at least $15 an hour to pick up trash at roughly 40 "hotspots" around the city, the Mercury News reported.

The city has partnered with Goodwill and Downtown Streets Team, a non-profit that works to end homelessness, to hire and manage the workers. According to the Mercury News, the ultimate goal is to help participants transition into full-time employment.

“We are working to transform lives,” Mayor Sam Liccardo said during a press conference on Thursday.

Officials said some of the trash and litter is made by the homeless and putting them to work will give them the opportunity to be part of the solution.

Those hired to help clean up will work four to five hours a day, KRON reported.
