But so do public industries

2018-08-18 20:07:50 UTC

for instance a private prison system would be reliant on convictions to continue it's existence...

2018-08-18 20:08:04 UTC

But prison guard unions in the USA already support harsher drug penalties

2018-08-18 20:09:47 UTC

We can't stop the drug war because it would mean millions of unemployed law enforcement psychos

2018-08-18 20:11:07 UTC

Tbh everyone is going to look out for own self interests and will act accordingly, only difference with a public industry is that they have a monopoly on power and thus taxation and can force people to use their services and make private competition illegal.

2018-08-18 20:13:48 UTC

Yeah in general privatizing is the way to go

2018-08-18 20:14:00 UTC

But a private police force is fucking retarded

2018-08-18 20:14:13 UTC

Because they might have incentives to convict people without cause

2018-08-18 20:15:24 UTC

Naa, that would mean they get paid or rewarded for # of arrests where I think private police would only survive if they prevented crime also

2018-08-18 20:15:55 UTC

There's certain industries that just function better if inefficient

2018-08-18 20:16:02 UTC

Law enforcement is one of those

2018-08-18 20:16:21 UTC

I'd prefer a lazy deadbeat cop that ignores crime to one that actively plants evidence to hit his quota

2018-08-18 20:16:26 UTC

police dont stop crimes from happening, just appear afterwards. Im sure someone linked here a private police VICE in a mexican town, and ive seen one in detroit too which has been successful

2018-08-18 20:16:27 UTC

I mean how the fuck do you prove evidence was planted

2018-08-18 20:16:31 UTC

it's literally impossible

2018-08-18 20:16:44 UTC

All a cop has to do is bring a bag of drugs and say he found it in your car

2018-08-18 20:17:29 UTC

When you add things that private industry would do, or even what some public forces do, like quotas, it becomes really fucked up

2018-08-18 20:17:37 UTC

Same thing for prosecutors in the USA

2018-08-18 20:17:43 UTC

they get elected based on how harsh they are

2018-08-18 20:17:52 UTC

The entire thing is fucked

2018-08-18 20:18:19 UTC

if police get a rep for planting evidence (which police do now lets be honest) you can just stop paying for that particular polices services and use a competitors. also if its a worry, I can run a business that has a policy of police wearing cameras at all times when on shift and footage can be openly viewed

2018-08-18 20:18:39 UTC

Yeah I suppose then it'd be alright

2018-08-18 20:18:51 UTC

But still it's fairly easy to plant evidence

2018-08-18 20:18:58 UTC

Private industry is better equipped to change according to the needs and concerns of the customers

2018-08-18 20:19:00 UTC

Just plant it before your shift and find the guy during your shift

2018-08-18 20:19:12 UTC

I agree that private should be the default mode

2018-08-18 20:19:28 UTC

The more important the industry however the more the argument for public becomes legitimate

2018-08-18 20:19:33 UTC

Like for instance nutrition

2018-08-18 20:19:34 UTC

Image if the guy you planted it on had some kind of CCTV and caught you, the fine you would get..... jesus

2018-08-18 20:19:44 UTC

Id have a hardline on that shit if I were chief

2018-08-18 20:19:44 UTC

imo it shouldn't be a fine

2018-08-18 20:19:57 UTC

cops should get 10x the penalty for committing a crime

2018-08-18 20:20:00 UTC

hah id lock up my own officers

2018-08-18 20:20:00 UTC

maybe more

2018-08-18 20:20:23 UTC

Like if a cop gets a ticket, it should be 10x the cost, assault, 10x the years in prison

2018-08-18 20:20:24 UTC

etc.

2018-08-18 20:20:25 UTC

id have the most squeaky clean, efficient police force in the county, otherwise you all go to my competitor and I go broke 😉

2018-08-18 20:20:33 UTC

Yeah right

2018-08-18 20:20:40 UTC

One thing I think should actually be regulated is nutrition

2018-08-18 20:20:47 UTC

Primarily because of how far chemistry has come

2018-08-18 20:20:54 UTC

Most foods are engineered to be addictive
