direct democracy sucks though
Modern Democracy isn't the true democracy.
Back in Ancient Greece, where Democracy originated, the power was in the hands of the people. They had a council and they decided if the laws that <someone> suggested could pass and be applied. And they would pass if the majority of the council voted them. The council was held by wise people, teachers, etc.
There was a "President" who was commanding the army and also suggesting the majority of laws
So the people had the complete power
Δημοκρατία= Δήμος+Κράτος
Democracy=Demo+Cracy= People+State
It worked because only men voted
Only male citizens
Well, even further than that, not all men could vote either
You had to complete a military service and be over 18
And not be a slave
Sounds like good criteria
A very good one
Male citizen
Complete military service for your nation
Be over 18
The Council was called "Εκκλησία του Δήμου" or "Council of the People" for your info.
Modern Democracy is very different
That type of democracy would be called autocracy nowadays
By libs
True
They also had sortition, which is very overlooked and underrated
That's a good system
If they had it
*they did*
We're they actually chosen at random
Damn ok
History never taught me that
Well, since I'm half greek I know more things about Democracy and greek shit
Well I mean it's not a bad system considering the criteria
Intelligent adult males citizens who served their country
And also, they were all disciplined
However, females had no rights at all
They couldn't even watch the Olympics
wouldn't democracies want the leaders ot be decided by the entire nation?
not just
men that servedin the armed forces
That's mob rule
I mean it looks like it
That's gay
Greek Democracy was based
