Buddhism isn't that good when it comes to reincarnation. There's a better outlook on metempsychosis in Judaism.

The point of Buddhism is to actively seek quietness and stillness, within Theravada.

In Vajrayana Buddhism they do this but do it to prepare for further enlightenment by the writings of Buddha handed down to them.
