Yes. Now if these are true itinerant use channels and not exclusively licensed only to you in that area, you can pretty much just do what you want and not bother to update the license.

2020-05-05 02:31:53 UTC

Business radio users never ID by callsign

2020-05-05 02:32:36 UTC

Itinerant is one step above MURS and FRS and is similarly ignored it seems

2020-05-05 02:36:49 UTC

Yeah, definitely itinerant, they were setup for a radio rental business based out of Philadelphia, but meant to be rented to production companies up and down the east coast.

2020-05-05 02:37:24 UTC

Hardly ever used actually in Philadelphia... that's why we had a company do all the paperwork for us so we didn't fuck it up.

2020-05-05 02:38:12 UTC

Yeah for legit use it’s best to have all the details in order

2020-05-05 02:39:55 UTC

I figure at this point for what we're doing we dont need to update anything because we will only ever have a few units at this point. In 2014 we had over 200 CP200's being used at many festivals, some at the same time between Florida and Vermont

2020-05-05 02:40:36 UTC

But if it's easy enough, or doesn't cost a ton, why not. Probably dont need to do it to all 25 channels either

2020-05-05 02:45:57 UTC

If you go through the effort to do it at all, just do them all so you aren’t limited later. That’s why I mention adding Trbo as well.

2020-05-05 02:47:18 UTC

A local radio shop went around doing updates for narrowbanding and they added narrow, trbo, NXDN, and maybe one other to everyone’s license so they had the option to upsell them on whatever they could.

2020-05-05 02:49:10 UTC

That same shop had a sales cunt there that tried to give me a hard time because I set up our dept radios and they didn’t make a penny off us. So after I left they took some radios to them and she tried to say I was illegally using a freq so they could charge them to remove it. I pulled up the license and showed them it was legit and pointed out it was them who did the license updates to allow it. Fucking sales people...

2020-05-05 02:52:21 UTC

🤦‍♂️

2020-05-05 02:53:14 UTC

I know what NXDN is... I'm not familiar with trbo, gotta look that up

2020-05-05 12:36:17 UTC

Are Baofengs still legal to buy?

2020-05-05 12:36:27 UTC

Without a license that is

2020-05-05 12:36:49 UTC

I don't want a dead pup

2020-05-05 12:41:31 UTC

Yes

2020-05-05 12:41:58 UTC

Order here

2020-05-05 12:42:13 UTC

They are in the US and legitimate seller

2020-05-05 12:57:35 UTC

> I looked them up after he posted earlier.... made me feel poor
@EDDSkitz - I'm just as poor then, because I could never justify spending the amount of money it would take to get even one XL200P. I'm very fortunate that my profession gives me toys, as any specialized position in any given industry does........and if it is any consolation I own a Baofeng and two pairs of FRS/GMRS radios, too.

2020-05-05 13:02:43 UTC

@redbeard - Harris' RPM and RPM2 programming software are worlds apart from each other. Luckily the XL family can only be programmed with #2, which makes programming a radio a breeze compared to life under the original RPM. I have to stay current in RPM, though, because of legacy radios I come across from time to time.

2020-05-05 13:06:05 UTC

@[VA] JediComms yeah, I figured they were a work thing. I get the same thing from people about my multi-thousand dollar collection of tools. Some very high dollar Fluke meters.

2020-05-05 13:06:35 UTC

I also work in heavy industry so I also use Peltor comtac III's as my hearing protection.

2020-05-05 13:12:31 UTC

@EDDSkitz - Nice! A coworker of mine adapted the Bose Vic 3 CVC to work with the legacy radios we have. If time ever permits he and I want to make the adapter to use the Bose with the XL, too.

2020-05-05 13:14:13 UTC

Sweet... luckily we use kenwood radios at work, so my special amplified PTT works for them and the Baofeng I use when out doing innawoods stuff with the bois

2020-05-05 13:28:46 UTC

I have a couple of Kenwood radios someone threw out at work last year, still in the box. They're UHF portables.....I just haven't taken the time to learn anything about them.

2020-05-05 13:30:44 UTC

They are super basic, nothing special really... but workhorses

2020-05-05 13:31:07 UTC

Well, if they are just the business band radios

2020-05-05 13:39:04 UTC

I kinda figured. Since I have a MA/COM, Tyco, Ericsson, Harris collection of radios I am pretty covered in the following band splits: 136-174MHz, 335-380MHz, 378-470MHz, 440-512MHz, 450-522MHz, 764-870MHz, and 896-941MHz. I can do analog and P25Conventional and encrypt everything, too. I should spend time with the other brand radios I've collected over the years but the time........

2020-05-05 13:43:35 UTC

Yeah, radios are an endless black hole

2020-05-05 13:44:09 UTC

As an electrician I like learning the science, but radios for me are just a tool

2020-05-05 13:44:31 UTC

I'm just the type that has to know everything about the tools I use

2020-05-05 13:50:31 UTC

I'm a P25 Technician, been in the industry since 2012 and I am still learning stuff. I am a rock star with the terminals, becoming savvy with sites so I can get into the software side of them without breaking them, but I am still dangerous to the IP network side because I don't know what to touch/not touch without bringing the whole empire down......oops, wrong block, sorry! So I stay away from the Core........

2020-05-05 13:51:02 UTC

Lmfao

2020-05-05 13:51:31 UTC

Is that something that you went to school for?

2020-05-05 13:52:27 UTC

I have a BA in Psych......

2020-05-05 13:53:23 UTC

I started as a software tester and through internal training grew into my current career track.

2020-05-05 13:53:37 UTC

Ah, okay

2020-05-05 13:53:54 UTC

Engineers seek me out for my hands on knowledge.

2020-05-05 13:54:46 UTC

I started as an industrial mechanic, just always been good with electrical and electronics, electricians in the industrial world are hard to come by, so I always ended up being the guy that got tasked with those jobs.
