I mean, I do consider flat earth a validly discoursible conspiracy. I just don't consider it good debate because I can't be convinced the earth is flat, and I've already been in to the hilt with all the flat earther tactics, so for me it's only really worthwhile when the flat earther crowd comes up with a new one.

It is generally accepted that mirage is formed when temperature of the ground surface, in a flat area like desert, is higher than the temperatures of the over ground air layers. In this case, light emerging from a distant object makes total internal reflection in the air layers and forms the image of the object that is called mirage. Our investigation on mirage formation in desert indicates that there is no meaningful relation between mirage formation and temperature change over the ground. In addition, we show that, the interference of the lights reflected from different air layers destroys the coherency of the image forming light. This happens because the temperature change occurs in an interval larger than a wavelength. In the second part of the report we demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that flat rough surfaces behave like mirrors at very large incident angles. We show that there is a threshold incident angle for observation of image in a rough surface that depends on the surface roughness and light wavelength. The shortest distance between observer and the image is determined by the threshold incident angle. Mirage is such an image. Image formation is studied in rough sheet glass surfaces that prepared by grinding with powders of different sizes.
I do like some of the side discussions that come up. Especially about questioning the completeness of theories about electromagnetism (especially concerning Earth's magnetosphere), gravity, and light physics.
Jadon. You must first understand why flat earthers have come to their belief...then you will be able to debate better. π
If we don't question the theory of gravity, for instance, we'll never dismantle it and improve on it towards unifying it with other theories.

there is no evidence i have seen with measurements of boats being shown to go over any curve. its always just assumed a curve because the boat starts disappearing or miraging

If we turn the image 90 degrees , AT a further distance that would look like one windows and the horizon would appear to be where the wall is
Disregard the light part of the graphic and just think about the wave form. Imagine the ground or sea is like that. With a Side view , Say you are all the way on the right looking toward the left at the same height as the wave peaks. You would see nothing not light that goes "inside" the waves. To the observer it would appear as a smooth surface

If the earth is convex...in relation to parallel light rays coming from the sun...why do the rays not converge?

What happens when the sun hits our atmosphere , according to some recent theories, is more like the energizing of a plasma field than the passing of light through a perfect glass medium.
