referring to on the one hand a perception of doctors as angels
vs. the reality
I can't agree with that, doctors tend to be a bit off in the ways you expect for people who have undergone some selection for intelligence
for example doctors here will often be very much traditional in terms of "good customs" like asking you which part of the country do yours come from, if someone is your relative, and similar things that are considered old-fashioned
perhaps there is a bit of a conflation here between their art and how they are really as people?
for example I have a very "nice" bedside manner
doctors are also both rigid and conformist in terms of money
and I am really nice too, but not like how I present myself
probably due to the fact that doctors by default expect to be paid
and paid well
but above all, hospitals as environment are quite formative
that much is true I think, doctors expect to be remunerated to a certain extent
but they don't usually desire riches, more comfort in life
there is a minority that wants to get rich
like Exilarch here
he wants "independence"
yes, comfort
that isn't an uncommon motivation
in general, I'm more fond of doctors than not
comfort or lack of care, not worrying about it
does anyone?
yeah
western society idolizes medicine
certainly, but I am having difficulty reducing it to an individual
TES is right
doctors are treated like holy saints
medical tv dramas are something that is exclusivelly western invention, and all the fascination with psychology fits within that as well
when in reality they are all whores on drugs vying for social status
that is why I hate my coworkers
medical dramas are all bullshit anyway, every single one of them
I do not even drink coffee and they are all out doing cocaine lines out of each others' buttholes
even medical documentaries are often bullshit
people consdier doctors *ideal* type of personality, somebody who should be entrusted even with *leading*the society
when in the past, they occupied the dignity of *professionals*
you mean the abstraction of "doctor" yes?
well, people project that onto individuals
well yes, but also skilled medical workers in general
and the individuals, receiving benefit from that both at an individual and group level, play into it as much as possible
being a doctor selects for two things, intelligence and conscientousness
the latter of which is easily feigned
