One thing that also crosses my mind, is how ancient philosophers never approached the ideals of truth and lie from point of utility

Simply, truth was valued in itself

And lie was despised in itself, as something against nature

There never existed the concept of "lying in order to acquire a benefit" like in Islam

Nobody ever said "truth is good because it serves society"

but simply "lie is ignoble and repulsive" period
