a word has a weight yeah?

2017-08-19 16:02:43 UTC

it carries a set of ideas with it

2017-08-19 16:02:46 UTC

but they are your own personal definitions and you do not clearly explain/define them

2017-08-19 16:02:49 UTC

but when a person uses a word

2017-08-19 16:02:53 UTC

and presume their definitions are known to your audience

2017-08-19 16:02:54 UTC

they mean some ideas within that set

2017-08-19 16:02:57 UTC

not all of them

2017-08-19 16:04:03 UTC

I don't think its even possible for me to hate someone I don't know

2017-08-19 16:04:05 UTC

all words are simply variables, placeholders for a meaning that is defined by a logical relation. If we replaced the word Discord with Fartmongler every time it was used, the word would not substantially change, because it's the logical relations that define the meaning, not the word itself

2017-08-19 16:04:09 UTC

or for anyone really

2017-08-19 16:04:12 UTC

they can say they hate them

2017-08-19 16:04:44 UTC

yeah, that's right, and since words are just placeholders for meanings

2017-08-19 16:04:44 UTC

you however have a personal concept of the logical relations of a given word, then do not communicate those relations and then split hairs after the miscommunciation occurs

2017-08-19 16:04:50 UTC

you've got to talk about the other person's meanings

2017-08-19 16:04:53 UTC

not just the words used

2017-08-19 16:04:55 UTC

yes but you never do that

2017-08-19 16:05:04 UTC

you just insist the word really means what you think it means, not what the other person says it means

2017-08-19 16:05:06 UTC

I always do it

2017-08-19 16:05:13 UTC

if you dont realize the implications of your own statements

2017-08-19 16:05:15 UTC

"hate doesn't mean what you mean, it really means what I mean"

2017-08-19 16:05:21 UTC

I'll try and show them to you

2017-08-19 16:05:24 UTC

I do the real version of what you think you do

2017-08-19 16:05:30 UTC

that's why it's apparent to me that you do not do it

2017-08-19 16:05:35 UTC

hate means hate, its really simple

2017-08-19 16:05:39 UTC

but sometimes when people say hate

2017-08-19 16:05:41 UTC

they dont mean hate

2017-08-19 16:05:41 UTC

so what is hate?

2017-08-19 16:05:44 UTC

they mean "things I dont like"

2017-08-19 16:05:49 UTC

hate is an emotion

2017-08-19 16:05:57 UTC

and what is that emotion?

2017-08-19 16:05:57 UTC

you described it aptly

2017-08-19 16:06:05 UTC

okay, so what is your use of the word hate

2017-08-19 16:06:11 UTC

the same as that

2017-08-19 16:06:20 UTC

well, two things

2017-08-19 16:06:25 UTC

no, three

2017-08-19 16:06:46 UTC

1. For clarity, it's useful to assign a temporary secondary title to a concept during these talks, to clarify which version you mean

2017-08-19 16:06:56 UTC

2. People cannot really control what they feel that much

2017-08-19 16:06:58 UTC

I never mentioned any other version

2017-08-19 16:07:03 UTC

I just said

2017-08-19 16:07:04 UTC

there's hate

2017-08-19 16:07:05 UTC

so saying "feeling hatred is evil" is not really doing anything
