@Hamburger Guy You can choose not to do it because of the low success rate, but it's still something you can try. I agree, generally useless these days

2019-04-10 12:03:07 UTC

@Fading cognitive behavioral therapy is more effective

2019-04-10 12:03:47 UTC

@Hamburger Guy Do you really think you should use CBT on people who have a different opinion to you?

2019-04-10 12:04:13 UTC

@Fading science is not up for debate but experimentation

2019-04-10 12:04:36 UTC

@Hamburger Guy Interpretation of results is absolutely up for debate

2019-04-10 12:04:53 UTC

That should be followed up with more experimentation, of course

2019-04-10 12:05:01 UTC

And we did

2019-04-10 12:05:09 UTC

And the earth is round

2019-04-10 12:05:45 UTC

You know that feeling when you know you are wrong but half of you refuses to accept that?

2019-04-10 12:06:14 UTC

save the bees!

2019-04-10 12:06:19 UTC

That doesn't mean debate should be verboeten even if one side is demonstrating sheer idiocy

2019-04-10 12:06:25 UTC

@Hamburger Guy I agree, Earth is round and flat

2019-04-10 12:07:12 UTC

@Fading debate is for convincing audiences

2019-04-10 12:07:19 UTC

@Human Sheeple if it's flat can you walk off it

2019-04-10 12:07:23 UTC

Aristotle never meant it to be like this

2019-04-10 12:07:36 UTC

@Hamburger Guy There isn't a rule that says that has to be the case, even if it is the most sensible form of debate

2019-04-10 12:07:40 UTC

2019-04-10 12:08:19 UTC

@Fading are we arguing over arguing

2019-04-10 12:08:52 UTC

cute ur like an old married couple

2019-04-10 12:08:58 UTC

@Hamburger Guy So? Just because it's not a good idea generally doesn't mean you _can't_ debate and it's ridiculous to say you should use cognitive behavioural therapy on people who disagree with you, regardless of whether or not their opinions fly in the face of common sense

2019-04-10 12:09:01 UTC

@megᵏᶻ How do you plan on walking passed this?

say it is flat, say there is an edge, how do you plan on walking passed this?

Batteries explode

2019-04-10 12:09:39 UTC

It gets too cold

2019-04-10 12:09:54 UTC

@Human Sheeple What temperature is it there? Because there are certainly ways to keep planes flying in subzero temps

2019-04-10 12:09:58 UTC

@Fading I know it sounds condescending

2019-04-10 12:10:10 UTC

record lows of minus 92 degrees C

2019-04-10 12:10:11 UTC

I have to read more into it

2019-04-10 12:10:26 UTC

Maybe it is a dumb ides

2019-04-10 12:10:38 UTC

I just know traditional debate is flawful

2019-04-10 12:10:39 UTC

82 deg S is the farthes south anybody's ever been

2019-04-10 12:11:20 UTC

@Hamburger Guy Nothing is perfect in the world of humans and rhetoric. And I mean, just as I said you're free to have the opinion that people with stupid ideas should have CBT performed on them, I just disagree

2019-04-10 12:11:42 UTC

@Fading it's not just opinions

2019-04-10 12:11:56 UTC

Its facts and evidence

2019-04-10 12:12:25 UTC

@Hamburger Guy Actually it is opinion, there's nothing that says people can't have opinions that are stupid. What I mean to say is I don't believe people should be forced to undergo CBT just because they deny facts and evidence, however galling it might be

2019-04-10 12:13:00 UTC

As someone who has worked in academia and "does science" for a living, I wish people weren't so foolish, I really do. But I don't deny their right to think what they think
