@ElectroquasistaticMagnetoMan Yes of course it's done deliberatley, the circuitry disinfo campaign started in the late 1970's. In this period semiconductors could be purchased anywhere, terrorists learned how to make "smart bombs", i.e. better than an alarm clock wired up to some semtex.
The governments were terrified, something had to be done, putting out bad info, then when people were asking about circuits saying why doesn't this work or that work, someone would make an anonymous tip off.
"smart bombs" could be detonated by radio, use logic, could even be hooked up to a speed-ometer such as the 1995 film "speed". You could even hook up a bomb to a heart meter, so if they killed you, you could wire teh bomb to blow up if your heart stopped beating.
There's no coincidence that all "circuits" nowadays are made in a factory with no hope of you modifying.
