few exceptions for masamune shirow's works like appleseed movies

2017-01-29 21:19:08 UTC

I don't mind it

2017-01-29 21:19:15 UTC

I do like Polygon Pictures

2017-01-29 21:19:28 UTC

Although their Ajin cgi was occasionally pretty poor

2017-01-29 21:20:04 UTC

oh, it's not just about the CGI but yeah

2017-01-29 21:20:20 UTC

that's a really good example of 2 frames animations I was talking about earlier

2017-01-29 21:20:32 UTC

it reduce the render time and thus, the cost of the anime

2017-01-29 21:20:58 UTC

hence the pretty poor FPS of those animes

2017-01-29 21:21:18 UTC

the animation is sluggish at best on those anime

2017-01-29 21:21:36 UTC

yeah they sometimes cut down character animation to 8fps

2017-01-29 21:21:46 UTC

in s2 it mostly disappeared

2017-01-29 21:21:47 UTC

lol >.> damn

2017-01-29 21:21:55 UTC

that's 3 frames animations

2017-01-29 21:21:58 UTC

but it was the stiffest thing I had seen in a while

2017-01-29 21:22:35 UTC

3times the same image, then a new one 3 times, etc

2017-01-29 21:22:50 UTC

that's really cheap

2017-01-29 21:23:39 UTC

it works for close to static scenes and it should be limited to that imho

2017-01-29 21:25:53 UTC

if they can pull it off with 3 times less job, I guess we gonna see 6fps animations soon...

2017-01-29 21:27:25 UTC

No pls

2017-01-29 21:28:05 UTC

I was thinking of rewatching both seasons of sidonia and didn't want to suffer through s1 poor frame rate

2017-01-29 21:28:11 UTC

So started using svp

2017-01-29 21:30:43 UTC

yeah well, okay for those kind of cheap stuff

2017-01-29 21:31:02 UTC

and for cheap shounen and the likes

2017-01-29 21:31:31 UTC

but SVP for a decent grade anime / movie / live action stuff is making it worse

2017-01-29 21:32:30 UTC

funny thing is "SVP" is a really common acronym in french for a formal way of saying "please" (S'il vous plait)

2017-01-29 21:35:23 UTC

there's a lot of 60fps youtube videos using svp and it shows a lot of jolt and blur on decently animated stuff

2017-01-29 21:36:14 UTC

It doesn't work too well with traditionally animated stuff because that's already intended to look smooth

2017-01-29 21:36:26 UTC

I think it helps more with situations where it's choppy

2017-01-29 21:36:35 UTC

yeah I guess

2017-01-29 21:36:46 UTC

but there's really no need for 60fps anyway

2017-01-29 21:39:44 UTC

I would guess that you could double or triple the framerates with interpolation depending of the original content and reduce it afterward to 24fps

2017-01-29 21:40:56 UTC

like runs it at 3 times speed and slow it down by 3 with interpolation or something to keep it smooth

2017-01-29 21:43:57 UTC

I could interpolate to 24 and it would fix most of the issues, since it's the drops to 8 that are the problem

2017-01-29 21:48:47 UTC

well the thing is that it's already 24fps

2017-01-29 21:49:04 UTC

but with triple copy of the same frames

2017-01-29 21:49:52 UTC

they can't really diffuse, sell etc, variable FPS or 8FPS shows on TV / DVD / BDiscs

2017-01-29 21:49:53 UTC

True true
