incomplete games do not deserve 10/10
damn guess nearly every game isn't deserving of a 10/10 then
Correct
There are a great many games better than MGSV.
FFXV, MGS1, MGS2, MGS4....
That's not what I'm denying
Personally I only consider 3 games 10/10
DMC3, MGS3, and Cave Story
Objectively though
I'm not sure if I would consider those 10/10
Just on a personal level I would
Cave Story maybe
MGS2 was the highest rated MGS game. Not sure if MGSV beat it.
and DMC3 I really want to say yes to but Vergil's story in the updated edition was very lackluster and basically just a Vergil costume retread with two new cutscenes, which were the only two in the game
Nope. It almost did, though.
Also the style switcher in DMC4 was really needed in DMC3. Had it been included in it (which people have patched into the game on PC), I could probably say it's a 10/10
MGSV is a great game, just not a great Metal Gear Solid game
Actually, no I'm wrong.
Metal Gear: Ghost Babel is the highest rated MG game. MGS2 is second.
I'd say V is an *ok* game
but not a great game
What are your grievances with it Homu?
It's alright. Didn't expect it to get rated so high, though.
Not that it doesn't deserve it..
I'd argue that it had its ratings inflated 'cos KOJIMA
But I'd easily put it at an 8.5+
MGSV is basically empty. What is there is fun, but it's not enough.
My main issues are the open world is so boring
No NPCs that you hear of
Just some outposts and one or two larger "strongholds"
(PC) 92.75%
(PS4) 91.59%
(XONE) 90.38%
(PS4) 93
(PC) 91
(XONE) 95
Metacritic and GameRankings for MGSV.
Metal Gear: Ghost Babel (GBC) 95.61%
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (PS2) 95.09% (PS2) 96
MGS3 : (PS2) 91.77% (PS2) 91 (3DS) 77.74% (3DS) 78
MGS3 scored higher than I remember.
I recall it not getting great reception till a couple years after release. (most critiques were fixed with the Subsistence release.)
"95% of MGSV is filler," bullet sponge bosses, dull, repetetive missions, basically 3 unique side ops, "unique" side ops could easily have been fixed up to turn them into full story missions but instead remained half empty side ops, most of the soundtrack is just licensed tracks, a very lackluster story that does nothing for the series excepts retreads previous ideas/stories but edited *slightly*, most of the characters got incredibly weak progression, Afghanistan and Africa feel really empty and boring to adventure in, 70% of the animals don't even have models and have to be caught in traps when MGS3 literally had models for every animal EXCEPT THE TSUCHINOKO (which I'm willing to accept for V even though it shouldn't have even been in it, like it shouldn't have been in PW), *the truck ride with Skull Face* (and Skull Face in general but that falls under character progression), difficulty remains pretty stagnant after like Mission 20 or below, Venom has next to no dialogue (though that could also go under character progression), some of the best cutscenes shown in the trailers were *exclusively for the trailers*, no real reason to toy with the large variety of weaponry that we get as there are like 3 OP weapons that make it pointless to even bother outside personal limitations, mother base is incredibly dull and empty (outside of the Paz stuff) despite the many soldiers travelling around the place and it's a massive downgrade from the very lively mother base shown off in early E3 or PAX or TGS or whatever it was footage, the bridges between platforms are way too fucking long, helicopter ride in and out (including helicopter arrival time) is way too fucking long, the story is literally unfinished due to the removal of Kingdom of the Flies
that's off the top of my head
want me to make each point into a new line to make it easier to read? Bit of a messy wall of text
Nah I can see it thanks
The Tsuchinoko point and the Soundtrack I have to disagree on. Mostly about the Tsuchinoko.
MGS is a clusterfuck of easter eggs, so the Tsuchinoko fit in with that. In fact, I feel like a lack of easter eggs is a problem with MGSV. You could say that including the Tsuchinoko is one of the more important choices, almost as important as including a cardboard box or the important choice of including Gako and Kero in MGO3 (which they fucked up BIG TIME by not including.)
As for the soundtrack, the licennsed tracks help with the 80's atmosphere (even if some songs are 90's, they were still picked for the "feeling" they had.)
