Libya's coastguard said it had intercepted nearly 500 migrants packed onto a wooden boat and returned them to Tripoli on

Authorities removed a statue of Confederate President Jefferson Davis in New Orleans early Thursday, as protesters both

The Philippines has begun moving troops and equipment to a disputed island in the South China Sea which is claimed by
both Manila and Beijing, a Philippines general said. It comes ahead of construction, including lengthening an airstrip

UK Defense Secretary Michael Fallon has claimed Saudi Arabia is just defending itself by bombing famine-threatened
Yemen, arguing the Gulf state is entitled to ask its allies for help.

President Donald Trump’s announcement that he is launching a commission to investigate “election integrity” was only
hours old before a politics professor at Rutgers University began organizing educators to “resist” the effort.

On Thursday, the White House announced that the president would sign an executive order creating the commission and
charging it with reviewing the 2016 election to determine if there was any widespread vote fraud or vote suppression.
The commission is to be headed by Vice President Mike Pence and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, the White House

“The Commission will review policies and practices that enhance or undermine the American people’s confidence in the

Customs Enforcement announced its largest anti-gang operation to date. According to ICE officials, agents have arrested
1,378 people in a massive six-week operation across the country.

“Of the arrests, 933 were US citizens and 445 were foreign nationals, though ICE could not provide how many were in the
US illegally,” notes CNN. “Of the total arrests, 280 were solely immigration-related.”

Three of the suspects arrested were individuals who had received protected status under former President Obama Deferred

A new Ebola epidemic has been declared in the Democratic Republic of Congo after the deaths of three people thought to
be linked to the virus.

The country’s health ministry confirmed one person has tested positive for the virus.

The World Health Organisation confirmed that the DR Congo had informed them of a lab-confirmed case of the disease.

A police chief has died after an unknown attacker ambushed and shot him outside a nursing home in Kirkersville, Ohio.
Two people shot inside the nursing home have been hospitalized, and later died. The attacker shot himself, police said.

Initial reports spoke of a police officer who was ambushed and killed when he responded to a call of an active shooter
outside the Pine Kirk Care Center on Main Street. The officer was later identified as Kirkersville Police Chief Steven
Disario.

The attacker entered the nursing home Friday morning and shot two more people, before turning the gun on himself, the
authorities said.

Kirkersville is a village of some 500 residents in rural Licking County, 25 miles (40km) east of Columbus, Ohio. Local

A Greek court has convicted two Swedish nationals of belonging to the Islamic State group, and sentenced them to 15

The men’s lawyer says they were also found guilty of arms possession – a pair of hunting knives – with the intent of

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) on Thursday vouched for President Trump’s assertion in a

Immigration officials deported a second round of Somali illegal immigrants who had been living in the U.S. along with a
few Kenyan foreign nationals.

Officials deported a total of 77 illegal immigrants to Somalia this month, according to a report by Midnimo Information
Center. Of the 77 illegal immigrants, 72 were Somali foreign nationals, while five of the illegal immigrants were from
Kenya.

An unnamed official told Midnimo the group of illegal immigrants were deported generally because of their immigration
status.

“They were deported over immigration issues including lacking papers. We had been informed of their planned arrival,”
the anonymous official said. “The Somalis will proceed to Mogadishu while Kenyans will be processed here accordingly.”
