🇩🇪 **Germany offers money for migrants who go back home**
<https://archive.is/dYlTf>

Germany wants to support rejected asylum-seekers who voluntarily move back to their home countries with a one-time payment of 3,000 euros ($3,570). The Interior Ministry says those who qualify can apply by a Feb. 28 deadline and they would get the money once they return home.

Migrants who agree to go back even before their asylum request is rejected have already been offered 1,200 euros per adult and 600 euros per child under a different program for almost a year. They are now eligible to apply for both programs.

But the Bild am Sonntag newspaper reported Sunday that 8,639 migrants participated in the returnee program between February and October, even though there are about 115,000 rejected asylum-seekers in Germany —many of whom can't be deported for humanitarian reasons.

🇩🇪 **In One German Region, Unemployment of Migrant Crisis Arrivals is 96 Per Cent**
<https://archive.is/eZfqQ>

While the number is up from last year, when 24 migrants were in full-time positions, **the total percentage of the total migrant workforce on work is only 3.6 per cent**, Mitteldeutsche Zeitung reports. “The refugee target group still presents a special challenge,” head of the district employment agency Thomas Holz said. Mr. Holz said the main issues are the language barrier and the recognition of qualifications and academic degrees from overseas.

The German Federal Employment Agency claimed last year that **74 per cent of the newly arrived migrants were only fit for menial labour jobs** and are unlikely to fill the vacancies for skilled labour that is in demand.

Many economists have countered the idea that mass migration will benefit the German labour market in the long term. A report published by the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg last year said that **mass migration would more than likely hurt long-term economic growth** due to language and quality of qualifications from abroad.

Migrant unemployment will mean that the state and the German taxpayer will continue to pay for the food, clothing, and housing of recently arrived migrants. A report from the German Federal Agency for Employment (BA) earlier this year claimed that half a million asylum seekers were living on government handouts. **In total, the German government spent €21.7 billion (£19.1 billion/ $25.8 billion) on migrant programmes in 2016.**

🇺🇸 **Zuckerberg’s twin rivals become 1st Bitcoin billionaires**
<https://archive.is/boh3G>

The twin brothers who successfully sued Mark Zuckerberg, claiming he stole the concept for Facebook are now billionaires after investing their lawsuit winnings in Bitcoin. The cryptocurrency surpassed a record high of $11,700 on Sunday.

According to the Telegraph, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss bought 1 percent of all currently mined Bitcoin for a price of $11 million in 2013. Since then, the $11 million crypto-bet has ballooned by almost 10,000 percent, making the twins the first Bitcoin billionaires.

The twins describe Bitcoin as “better than gold.” The cryptocurrency, which was introduced in 2009 as an alternative to government-controlled fiat, has enjoyed a meteoric rise in value over the last year. Now up more than 12-fold for the year, one Bitcoin was selling at below $1,000 on January 1. It remains to be seen whether Mark Zuckerberg will claim credit for the twins’ wise investment.

🇺🇸 **Groups demand University of Chicago pay slavery reparations**
<https://archive.is/8cKlA>

A group of community organizers met at the University of Chicago last Tuesday and “urged” the school to “make amends” for its past ties to slavery. The Chicago Maroon reports N’COBRA was joined by the Reparations at UChicago Working Group, whose research concluded the university should pay restitution due to its ties to 19th century politician Stephen Douglas. Douglas’s land grant to the original university was “bankrolled by profits from his slave plantation.”

“The University of Chicago is founded by slaveholders and the labor of enslaved people can actually be traced through the years,” said Guy Emerson Mount, one of researchers. “The labor of enslaved people actually translates into buildings, endowments, and real hard material resources.”

N’COBRA and the Working Group also want the university to establish a “truth and reconciliation committee,” and for the city to “discontinue any current and future contracts” with the school until it agrees to their demands.

🇺🇸 **Mattis: 'Enemy is Collapsing' Faster Than Media Predicted**
<https://archive.is/04ohh>

Secretary of Defense James Mattis touted the rapid success of the U.S.-backed military campaign against the Islamic State to reporters en-route to Egypt Saturday.

“The enemy is collapsing. In many cases, faster than many people in the media forecasted,” Mattis declared. “You know, I always stayed away from timelines for this very reason. It’s usually slower or faster than any timeline.”

Mattis has consistently been reluctant to put a timeline on the U.S. military presence in Syria, but highlighted the recent withdrawal of approximately 400 Marines from the country after successful operations against ISIS. The 400 Marines are being sent back to the U.S. after supporting the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces in their military campaign against ISIS.

PARKLAND, Wash. -- A 55-year-old Eatonville man armed himself with an AK-47 and a pistol over the weekend to battle "the lizard people," the Pierce County Sheriff's Office said.

The man told law enforcement that President Trump had called to warn him.

The man ended up being sent to a hospital for treatment and a mental health evaluation.

Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, a witness called 911 to report a white Jeep Cherokee was stopped at 108th Street South and Pacific Avenue South in Parkland.

<:trump:284711336934375425> **Pompeo: Trump tweets actually 'help' CIA**
<https://archive.fo/gWD3c>

CIA Director Mike Pompeo said on Saturday that President Trump's Twitter habits have actually helped his agency gather and understand intelligence.

Asked by Fox News's Bret Baier in a panel discussion at the Reagan National Defense Forum in Simi Valley, Calif., whether Trump's propensity for Twitter complicated the CIA's work, Pompeo demurred, saying that the agency has gathered important intelligence by observing how U.S. adversaries react to the president's tweets.

"I've actually seen it help us," he said. "I have seen things the president has put on his Twitter account actually have a real-world impact on our capacity to understand what's going on in other places in the world."

"That is, our adversaries responded to those tweets in ways that were helpful to us to understand command and control issues, who's listening to what messages, how those messages are resonating around the world."

Pompeo, a former Republican congressman from Kansas, has served at the helm of the CIA since January and is said to be close to Trump, frequently delivering his daily intelligence briefings.

<https://archive.fo/RdaLK>

Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie offer a look into a Trump campaign that was defined by fits of rage, fast food, and competing forces of unconditional loyalty in their upcoming book.

In the new tell-all, titled "Let Trump Be Trump,” obtained in advance by the Washington Post, the former campaign manager and senior aide explain the “expletive-filled tirades” the then-candidate would often unleash on his staff when things didn’t go as planned.

“His wrath is never intended as any personal offense, but sometimes it can be hard not to take it that way,” they wrote. “The mode that he switches into when things aren’t going his way can feel like an all-out assault; it’d break most hardened men and women into little pieces.”

Besides his rage, his diet wasn’t the healthiest either. The men describe how Trump’s four main food groups on the campaign trail consisted of McDonald’s, Kentucky Fried Chicken, pizza, and Diet Coke.

The book states president would order from McDonalds **“two Big Macs, two Fillet-O-Fish, and a chocolate malted.”**

🇺🇸 **REPORT: NFL Taking Money From Breast Cancer, Veterans Funds, To Pay For 'Social Justice' Settlement**
<https://archive.is/7j7KS>

San Francisco 49er Eric Reid shocked even the left-leaning Slate when he told the magazine in an interview Saturday that the NFL intends to use money slated for breast cancer charities and the "Salute to Service" veterans fund to pay for a seven-year, $89 million "social justice" program designed to placate protesting players.

The NFL announced the nearly-$100 million initiative last week as a way of "settling" with a coalition of players who have been kneeling during the national anthem since the start of the season — a group led by now-former 49er, out-of-work second string quarterback Colin Kaepernick, Philadelphia Eagles’ Malcolm Jenkins and retired NFLer Anquan Boldin.

At the time of the announcement, however, details about where the money would come from were unclear. The NFL said only that owners would be allowed to allocate funds into “projects dealing with criminal justice reform, law enforcement/community relations and education.” But, Reid says, the money spent on these projects isn't new — it's simply being reallocated from existing charitable giving projects.

🇬🇧 **British aid for Syria being funneled to extremists… again**
<https://archive.is/jxkOQ>

The UK government has suspended a foreign aid project in Syria amid allegations that funds are being pocketed by extremists groups. It is yet another report of British taxpayers’ money reaching the wrong hands. Allegations were also made concerning extremists from the Syrian Al-Qaeda branch, Jabhat al-Nusra (Al-Nusra Front), directly choosing officers for two stations in the country’s north-western Idlib province.

Earlier this year, it was revealed how Britons are donating hundreds of thousands of pounds to Islamist extremists - sometimes without knowing so. According to Home Secretary Amber Rudd, such money represents the extremists’ primary form of income. The Home Office also found that overseas funding was a “significant source of income” for a small number of suspected radical bodies.

Reports in October also claimed that British charity aid convoys are being used to funnel funds to terrorist organizations in Syria. An FCO spokesman said: “We take any allegations of co-operation with terrorist groups and of human-rights abuses extremely seriously and the Foreign Office has suspended this program while we investigate these allegations.

“We believe that such work in Syria is important to protect our national security interest but of course we reach this judgment carefully given that in such a challenging environment no activity is without risk. That is why all our programs are designed carefully and subject to robust monitoring,” he added, according to the BBC.

🇮🇱 **US recognition of Jerusalem as Israeli capital would be 'major catastrophe' - Turkey**
<https://archive.is/BR5CZ>

US recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would be a "major catastrophe" which would lead to new conflicts, Turkey has warned. It follows reports that President Donald Trump is preparing to formally acknowledge the city as the Jewish state's capital.

"If the [current] status of Jerusalem is changed and another step is taken... that would be a major catastrophe," Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag said during a televised press conference on Monday, as quoted by AFP. "It would completely destroy the fragile peace process in the region, and lead to new conflicts, new disputes and new unrest."

Bozdag, who is also the Turkish government's spokesperson, also told Reuters on Monday that Jerusalem's current status was determined by international agreements and must be preserved. "The status of Jerusalem and Temple Mount have been determined by international agreements. It is important to preserve Jerusalem's status for the sake of protecting peace in the region," he said.

The "President cannot obstruct justice because he is the chief law enforcement officer under [the Constitution's Article II] and has every right to express his view of any case," Dowd claims.

Dowd says he drafted this weekend's Trump tweet that many thought strengthened the case for obstruction: The tweet suggested Trump knew Flynn had lied to the FBI when he was fired, raising new questions about the later firing of FBI Director James Comey.

🇺🇸 **Mueller Yanks Comey’s Immunity Deal; Falling Out Between Former FBI Bosses Puts Comey in Danger**
<https://archive.is/VMWpn>

There has been a reported falling out between U.S. Special Counsel Robert Mueller and ex-FBI Chief James Comey in recent weeks which leaves Comey potentially vulnerable to possible criminal charges, according to Justice Department and FBI sources.

Any immunity agreement that was previously on the table protecting Comey is now off the table, according to multiple DOJ sources. For months since he was fired by President Donald Trump in June, Comey has been testifying and acting like a major D.C. player with little to worry about. But at some point in recent weeks, that has changed based on new information about Comey’s tenure at FBI which has been uncovered during Mueller’s probe, sources said.

A high-ranking DOJ veteran in June said they were confident Mueller has granted a complete get-out-of-jail-free-card deal for Comey: a coveted immunity deal in exchange for cooperating as a key witness. Now, however, that official and others say there has been a seismic shift that dissolved any agreements between the two former FBI directors. And it appears Comey has shared this development with his inner circle as well, sources confirmed.

Comey’s previous deal insulated him against prosecution for his role in many controversial FBI cases and emerging scandals. However, absent a deal protecting him from Mueller’s team or a grand jury, Comey could be implicated in a number of growing probes.

The jury convicted Brown of stealing money from a fake charity, One Door For Education. The “charity” was supposed to give scholarships to children who could not afford school but instead the Democratic congresswoman used the donations to go on trips and purchase expensive items. She also used the money to host parties.

🇺🇸 **Dismissed FBI agent changed Comey's language on Clinton emails to 'extremely careless': report**
<http://archive.is/E30CL>

The former FBI official, who was recently fired from special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia team over messages critical of President Trump, reportedly edited a key phrase that removed possible legal implications in former FBI Director James Comey's statement about his decision on the Hillary Clinton email investigation.

Peter Strzok, who served as a counterintelligence expert at the bureau, changed the description of Clinton's actions in Comey's statement, CNN reported Monday, citing U.S. officials familiar with the matter.

One source told the news outlet that electronic records reveal that Strzok changed the language from "grossly negligent" to "extremely careless," scrubbing a key word that could have had legal ramifications for Clinton. An individual who mishandled classified material could be prosecuted under federal law for "gross negligence."

Strzok, who served as the No. 2 official leading the probe into the Clinton email server, has been thrust into the center of controversy after news of his dismissal from Comey's team.

In July 2016, Comey said that Clinton's use of a private email server while secretary of State was "extremely careless," but he added that "no reasonable prosecutor" would charge her.

<http://archive.is/DHzT9>

A college paper fired a writer who called the DNA of white people “an abomination,” according to a Monday report.

Texas State University student journalist Rudy Martinez said that “white death will mean liberation for all” in the November column and The University Star fired him after previously retracting and apologizing for the column, reported The College Fix.

“The author of this column has jeopardized the atmosphere of inclusivity at this university and will no longer be published in The University Star,” read a correction from the paper’s editorial board.

Along with constructive criticism, the editorial board said that the paper has received death threats and “hate mail,” as well as threats to defund The University Star.

“Ontologically speaking, white death will mean liberation for all,” said Martinez in his now-retracted column. “Accept this death as the first step toward defining yourself as something other than the oppressor. Until then, remember this: I hate you because you shouldn’t exist. You are both the dominant apparatus on the planet and the void in which all other cultures, upon meeting you, die.”

“The column’s central theme was abhorrent and is contrary to the core values of inclusion and unity that our Bobcat students, faculty, and staff hold dear,” said Denise M. Trauth, president of Texas State.

🇺🇸 **Pro-Doug Jones Super PAC Using Voter Intimidation Tactics — Ad Claims ‘Your Vote Is Public Record’**
<http://archive.is/uAwVw>

Highway 31, a Birmingham-based pro-Doug Jones super PAC is using what could be perceived as voter intimidation tactics against Roy Moore by suggesting the votes cast in a December 12 special election are “public record.”

Beginning last week, some Alabamians were posting on social media about encountering online pre-roll video advertising making such a claim.

One declares Moore to be a “child predator,” a claim apparently based on a report that lays out decades-old allegations that he acted inappropriately and that he engaged in sexual misconduct with underage women while employed as a prosecutor in Etowah County, AL in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

After leveling the “child predator” charge, the narrator tells viewers their vote is public record, and their community will know if they “helped stop Roy Moore.”

“If you don’t vote, and Roy Moore – a child predator – wins, could you live with that? Your vote is public record and your community will know whether or not you helped stop Roy Moore,” she said.

Another shorter advertisement, clocked at five seconds, also declares your vote public record and says “you community will know whether or not you helped stop Roy Moore.”

At the end of each of those videos, the group Highway 31 claims responsibility for the ad and directs viewers to its website.

🇸🇪 **Sweden data breach: 82 per cent of people sent to prison for gang rape are foreign born**

Swedish newspaper Friatider says a large amount of data from the Criminal Data System was secretly provided to a far-right nationalist group called “Nordfront”. Together with sex crime website “Gang Rape Sweden” they decided to publish the leaked judicial database on Friday. The leaked data discloses: Decision date, name, social security number, court, destination number, date of judgment, period of imprisonment, region and place of investigation for the prosecution of suspects.

Files of 168,000 sentences that were given between 10 May 2004 and 8 January 2015 were published. Of the 83,656 individuals involved, 37,735 (or 45 per cent) were foreign born, Nordfront writes. Of the people sentenced to 9 and 10 years in prison, 70 per cent and 68.8 per cent were foreign born.

Among gang rape cases, 118 of the perpetrators, or 82 per cent, are immigrants. The overrepresentation for immigrants is 18.2. The investigation also claims that the direct costs of immigrants’ crime is well above SEK 20 billion (2 billion euros) a year.

The incident is another proof that Sweden rather keeps its migrant crime data away from the public eye: Publishing migrant crimes is a ‘bigger problem’ than the crimes themselves. While a lot of people all over the world already know what is really happening in the country, its politicians prefer to avoid reality.

🇺🇸 **REPORT: Hillary Clinton Officials Were Warned In 2008 And 2016 About Harvey Weinstein**
<https://archive.is/RHFjn>

According to a new report, Hillary Clinton's inner circle received at least two warnings about Harvey Weinstein long before the scandal broke this year, including a warning in 2008 and another during the 2016 campaign that word of his alleged sexual crimes would be made public at some point.

In a piece published by The New York Times on Tuesday, actress Lena Dunham said that she notified Clinton campaign deputy communications manager Kristina Schake about Weinstein, saying that rumors of his sexual behavior were an "open secret" in Hollywood.

"I just want you to let you know that Harvey’s a rapist and this is going to come out at some point," Dunham claims she told Clinton’s campaign. "I think it's a really bad idea for him to host fund-raisers and be involved because it's an open secret in Hollywood that he has a problem with sexual assault."

Dunham says that she also warned Clinton spokeswoman Adrienne Elrod in summer 2016 about Weinstein but that she did not see the campaign do anything in response to her warnings. 🇸🇪 **Swedish Chief Prosecutor: No-Go Zone Rinkeby Is Like a ‘War Zone’**
<https://archive.is/1PylX>

Ms. Tamm, who will become acting head of the anti-organised crime unit in the New Year, said that she would be looking to war-torn countries like Colombia and El Salvador to find new methods of handling the rampant violence in Sweden’s no-go zones, Sveriges Radio reports.

“Rinkeby is almost like a war zone. When the police work there, they work as the armed forces would have done,” Tamm said. Tamm then compared the no-go zone to Central American countries which have had to deal with huge waves of criminal gang-related violence in the recent past.

The comments come after members of the Moderate Party proposed sending the armed forces into areas like Rinkeby to allow police to do their jobs without the fear of being attacked.

🇬🇧 **Plot to blow up Theresa May is foiled: Suicide bombers armed with knives planned to murder the Prime Minister in Downing Street, claims MI5**
<https://archive.is/EJ3NV>

The security services believe they have stopped an Islamist suicide bomb plot to assassinate the Prime Minister. Two Muslim men are suspected of conspiring to attack Downing Street armed with an improvised bomb, suicide vest and knives. Investigators suspect the pair wanted to detonate a bomb disguised as a bag. They would then attempt to kill Theresa May armed with a suicide vest, pepper spray and knife in the aftermath.

Naa'imur Zakariyah Rahman, 20, and Mohammed Aqib Imran, 21, will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday charged with planning terror attacks. Rahman, 20, from north London, is accused of planning to bomb Downing Street's security gates and then attack the Prime Minister in the ensuing chaos.

The alleged conspiracy was foiled after a joint operation by Scotland Yard, West Midlands Police and MI5. Security chiefs stepped in amid fears the men were preparing to launch an attack, arresting them at gunpoint. However, although they appear to have been inspired by Islamic State it does not appear they were able to obtain or build any explosives. The smashed plot highlights the extreme threat still faced by the UK in a year blighted by terrorist atrocities which claimed 36 lives.

🇺🇸 **'Over 10,000 texts' between ex-Mueller team officials found, after discovery of anti-Trump messages**
<http://archive.is/TwN2G>

Justice Department officials are reading through “over 10,000 texts” between FBI officials Peter Strzok and Lisa Page, Fox News has learned, after it emerged Strzok was removed from Special Counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe following the discovery of anti-Trump messages between them.

Department of Justice officials told Fox News they are in the process of going through the texts so they can hand them over to the House Intelligence Committee.

Strzok, who was an FBI counterintelligence agent, had worked on the Mueller probe, but was reassigned to the FBI’s human resources department after the discovery of anti-Trump text messages with Page, with whom he was having an affair. Page was briefly on Mueller’s team, but since has returned to the FBI.

Fox News has learned that Strzok also oversaw the bureau’s interviews with ousted National Security Advisor Michael Flynn – who pleaded guilty Friday to lying to FBI investigators in the Russia probe.

He also was present during the FBI’s July 2016 interview with Hillary Clinton at the close of the email investigation, shortly before then-FBI director James Comey called her actions “extremely careless” without recommending criminal charges.

<http://archive.is/NjZC2>

The House of Representatives overwhelmingly rejected an attempt to impeach President Trump after a liberal Texas congressman forced a vote on his effort.

Democratic Rep. Al Green, who has repeatedly called for the president's removal, introduced two articles of impeachment against Trump on Wednesday.

But lawmakers immediately voted to effectively kill his resolution, with 364 voting to table it and 58 Democrats voting to move ahead.

In a dramatic speech on the floor ahead of the vote, Green called Trump “unfit” for office and accused him of "high misdemeanors."

__***Facebook named the No. 1 place to work in the US***__
<http://archive.is/hFBdt>

It’s been a tumultuous year for Facebook (FB), which has been the subject of scrutiny amid revelations that Russia purchased ads on the social network to meddle with 2016’s U.S. presidential election. But that hasn’t affected how many Facebook employees feel about working there.

On Wednesday, job site Glassdoor announced the social network ranked No. 1 atop its “100 Best Places to Work in 2018” list, which ranks companies based entirely on reviews that employees post to Glassdoor. This is the first time Facebook has topped Glassdoor’s list since 2013, beating other tech companies such as Google (GOOG, GOOGL) at No. 5, HubSpot at No. 7, World Wide Technology at No. 8, Ultimate Software (ULTI) at No. 10., Yahoo at No. 65 and VMWare (VMW) at No. 33. Apple (AAPL) also made the list but slid 48 spots from last year to No. 84.

“It’s clear employees love working at Facebook,” said Glassdoor CEO Robert Hohman in a statement. “What we really see them appreciate most is the company’s mission-driven culture, transparent leadership and the fact that their work literally impacts the lives of billions of people worldwide.”

Many Facebook employee reviews currently on Glassdoor’s site explained the advantages of working at the social network include good work-life balance, a very open and transparent work culture, and the opportunity to work alongside smart colleagues they can learn from. Facebook also offers competitive salaries — the average software engineer earns $126,780 a year — alongside comprehensive benefits and perks: four months of paid parental leave for new mothers and fathers, $4,000 doled out to parents for each child birth, subsidies for pre-school tuition and lots of free food.
