And it was odd because north Korea was communist as well

Most totalitarian leaders were paranoid

Stalin had Koreans deported because he believed they were spies

But north Korea before it became its own country started to become communist

After WW2 the cold War would boil down to the Korean War which has never been finished

And at first, communism was the way to go

Communist north Korea was way better than, capitalist south Korea during the early ages

But then the country declined because it couldn't sustain the cost of the country

And capitalist Korea got better over time

Well because South Korea at that time was underdeveloped. Underdeveloped countries were hard for them to be democratic and at the same time, prosperous.

Yeah because it was just after the war

And most of the fighting was on South Korean land

So they had to rebuild

Which took some time

I mean to me though its kind of unfair to say that North Korea used to be better than South Korea

Because yeah South Korea was still being rebuilt

Also South Korea took the brunt of the damage from the Japanese occupation considering most of the North was pretty agrarian during that time period

Well also before that time, in early 1900s they were under the Japanese rule

It took a long time to reach even-gender population because the japanese took so many young women as prostitutes during the 30s and WWII
