I still think the situation in Syria was mostly caused by the US and the lack of interest to let a Qatarian tube run along, which is what lead to the vilification of Assad.

I don´t think Russia had any interest in that war.

They had the positions on the ground anyway.

It was just a matter of the US installing their own proxy and failing at it.

Toppling Assad was key to avoid the energy encirclement of WEstenr europe. it failed so various players had to accept reality and mke the deals with Russia, like Austria and the natgas deal where they blatantly threw shade at us

the us failed at regime change, too 'weak', to obama's credit in one way, but it definitely hurt our rep as a gangster to the euros
