could not understand how to fit in 100 million people inside that small country

The Mercator projection makes land look larger the closer to the top and bottom of the map it is

maps aren't misleading if you pay attention to size and country of origin of the map

Yeah India is a fucking huge continent

maps are just easier to read the way they're designed
