If you look at Yoruba culture and Edo Culture, you wouldn’t go out and call them primitive
Thanks for correcting that word you have my back.
Dude
Can you show signs of their enlightenment (equivalent to European counterparts)?
Again, I don't have a racial angle to this
There was kingdoms of course but they never produced any scientific advancements in society faster than Europeans.
I don't want to be in the same boat as GoldenKingship, by any means - but I do want to learn about how much more advanced Africans were than we give credit for them
Racism, in it's modern sense and with it's modern classification, did not exist during the time much of these scientific advancements which you idolize so much took place.
Bigotry certainly existed and people of different ethnicities would've been seen as strange or alien, but there was no broad sweeping groups of white, black, etc.
the closest thing to that would've been religion
I mean the Yoruba people founded the Oyo empire, one of the best African Empires out there, They conquered nearly a lot of kingdoms around them and made them tributaries, The Oyo Empire has interesting history to it, especially it’s creation, The Reign of Bashorun Gaha, Alaafin Abiodun, Afonja, The Fall of Oyo, The Oyo Dahomey/Ashanti wars etc
Okay, but why does that stuff matter?
Because "WE WUZ KANGZ"
Wars and conquering aren't evidence of intellectual progress
Or enlightenment...
Islamic places did a lot of conquering too. They did have some pretty impressive scientific progress and advanced civilization to show too though
@!GoldenKingship! The "we wuz kangz" meme points fun of the African nationalists who believe that the ancient Egyptians were black, which they clearly weren't. For a time the Nubians ruled Egypt for a short time, however they were clearly foreign invaders.
It doesn't have anything to do with sub saharan kingdoms...
If you’re looking for enlightenment type of stuff, then the Mali Empire and other places near it are the places to look
Egypt was the greatest african civilization out there.
You are the one making these arbitrary definitions and sweeping generalizations.
The We wuz kangz meme turned bad tbh
it was first used to mock afrocentrists, which I am not against, nobody likes them
But now everytime you discuss actual African history, you get the We Wuz Kangz treatment
Apparently African just means those of black skin and the other physical features of sub saharans
Now it means those Africans completely free of European influence?
because christianity is exclusively european apparently
and means those africans who were christians weren't africans actually
Yes nations were involved in africa but who are the ones shipping in slaves the most during slavery.
Yeah, Axum going Christian in 300 AD? Didn’t happen
Christian Nubia Doens’t exist apparently
African people enslaved their own ethnic groups for moiney.
No
That’s a lie
Look at the "Hood" Same thing but they rob stores
Again, I'm not exactly sure what point is being made here...Africans are pretty clearly "behind" during most of their history. Not because they are black, but because of a variety of pretty well understood reasons
African kingdoms raided and sold people of enemy Kingdoms
yes african people enslaved people to sell as slaves, there is hardly anything surprising about it. These sweeping racial groups didn't exist in Africa, as they didn't exist in Europe.
not their own people
The African slavers, who were the more domineering groups, clearly didn't see themselves as the same as the tribes which they subdued and enslaved.
Similarly a Polish man wouldn't think he is the same as a French man in Europe
