promoting interests of consumers

2020-03-12 00:21:27 UTC

so catering to customers lol

2020-03-12 00:21:28 UTC

@Fawx >judeo
That's because consumerism didn't exist in Burke's time, yet he was still an avid believer in fundamental Christian values. One the seven deadly sins explicitly argues against an excess indulgence in wealth, items, or foods. I would argue that Burke would not support today's consumerist culture.

Oh no image preview

2020-03-12 00:22:04 UTC

isn't that just a result of globalization

2020-03-12 00:22:19 UTC

Ill just copy paste\ Consumerism
DescriptionConsumerism is a social and economic order that encourages an acquisition of goods and services in ever-increasing amounts. Wikipedia

2020-03-12 00:22:34 UTC

Basically supply and demand.

2020-03-12 00:22:35 UTC

higher GDP > more people with stuff to buy > more producers > more transactions of goods/services

2020-03-12 00:23:46 UTC

Not at all @Dan🦀. "Ever-increasing amounts" is pretty indicative of what consumerism entails.

2020-03-12 00:24:23 UTC

@christiam its a wiki definition

2020-03-12 00:24:39 UTC

Copy and pasted

2020-03-12 00:24:54 UTC

The definition is correct, your analysis of it is wrong.

2020-03-12 00:25:14 UTC

How is not supply and demand.

2020-03-12 00:25:19 UTC

@christiam >A very large portion Christian values stem from Judean values
You're arguing that the mere act of owning large sums of money is immoral and frankly to me that sounds like a progressive viewpoint much more than a conservative viewpoint; it's what the communists/socialists base a large portion of their moral model upon.

2020-03-12 00:25:54 UTC

It's not about owning large sums of money, it's about needlessly spending all of your available income on useless products.

2020-03-12 00:26:11 UTC

Well what can be done about that lol. Take away buisness?\

2020-03-12 00:26:26 UTC

No, but you could promote Christian morality.

2020-03-12 00:26:26 UTC

didnt adam smith talk about consumer education at some point? 🤔

2020-03-12 00:26:34 UTC

You're arguing from a point of opinion on something that cant be controlled by anyone.

2020-03-12 00:26:45 UTC

ChrisTiam is a communist, here to spread anti-materialist theory.

2020-03-12 00:27:02 UTC

Stop hindering discussion @D3plor4ble

2020-03-12 00:27:18 UTC

He's as entitled to a view point as we are

2020-03-12 00:27:22 UTC

You have no clue what you're talking about. @D3plor4ble

2020-03-12 00:27:45 UTC

Christiam reported to mods for spreading communist theory

2020-03-12 00:27:46 UTC

i sincerely have a hard time believing anyone is truly a communist in 2020.

2020-03-12 00:28:04 UTC

@christiam why should someone be barred from needlessly wasting money? It's theirs to own, it's not the government's, nor is it the people's

2020-03-12 00:28:14 UTC

You're the same type of person to call Hitler or Mussolini a communist. Historically unfounded. @D3plor4ble

2020-03-12 00:28:15 UTC

They only identify as such because they ignore nearly a century of history

2020-03-12 00:28:34 UTC

See what I mean? Now Chris is defening Nazis

2020-03-12 00:28:51 UTC

"no true collectivist"

2020-03-12 00:28:52 UTC

Uhhh no hes not lol

2020-03-12 00:28:59 UTC

I'm not defending nazis either, I'm just stating how retarded you sound. @D3plor4ble

2020-03-12 00:29:19 UTC

dont reeeee out from a lofty philosophy discussion guys. jesus

2020-03-12 00:29:26 UTC

Hitler was a collectivist. He was a communist. There is no essential difference between communism and socialism

2020-03-12 00:29:54 UTC

@D3plor4ble National **sozialistische** Deutsche Arbeiterpartei

2020-03-12 00:30:26 UTC

> There is no difference between communism and socialism, except in the means of achieving the same ultimate end: communism proposes to enslave men by force, socialism—by vote. It is merely the difference between murder and suicide.

2020-03-12 00:30:36 UTC

what you deem useless spending, i might consider valuable and important spending

2020-03-12 00:30:39 UTC

@Dan🦀 their counterargument is that just cause it's in the name doesn't mean it's truly socialist; i.e. North Korea calling themselves democratic

2020-03-12 00:30:53 UTC

who's to be the arbiter of spending?

2020-03-12 00:30:59 UTC

me^
