it's free, but it comes at a cost of being terrible

2018-09-26 16:19:24 UTC

but it aint good either ;p

2018-09-26 16:19:29 UTC

depends on your needs and tech knowledge

2018-09-26 16:19:44 UTC

for the average person, it's terrible just because of the knowledge needed to use it

2018-09-26 16:20:45 UTC

as a gamer its a but of a hassle to get things running

2018-09-26 16:21:08 UTC

I haven't tried the new steam stuff with it thou, I hear they made some good improvements

2018-09-26 16:21:09 UTC

I actually prefer Mac, but it comes at the cost of being very expensive and also it doesn't really do games very well

2018-09-26 16:21:19 UTC

you could do hackintosh, but it will never work properly

2018-09-26 16:21:54 UTC

ag nee sies man, go away with that mac bs lol

2018-09-26 16:21:54 UTC

not even close, the reason why Windows is so huge is because Microsoft got in there first and managed to convince a bunch of companies to use their OS instead of Mac or Linux

2018-09-26 16:27:00 UTC

Gaming on Linux won't be a problem for long with the recent release of Proton

2018-09-26 16:28:29 UTC

yeah I hear most games work with it

2018-09-26 16:30:30 UTC

I see the price/performance ratio of nvidia's new RTX cards are terrible

2018-09-26 16:30:42 UTC

Yeah and little to no effort on behalf of the devs. It's literally doing reinterpretation of dx with gl and vulkan, and vulkan is pretty decent, especially with valve involved to make this work.

2018-09-26 16:30:50 UTC

10 - 15% increase for double the price of a 1080ti

2018-09-26 16:32:19 UTC

Meh i don't think RTX would really pickup this gen, it's still experimental and no games yet to actually test. But performance wise it seems to be progressive at least.

2018-09-26 16:32:38 UTC

I think it will take another generation of cards before ray tracing tech matures

2018-09-26 16:32:51 UTC

no point jumping in on first gen tech

2018-09-26 16:34:36 UTC

they are extremely good at neural networks and machine learning so I think those guy's are at least happy with them

2018-09-26 16:36:31 UTC

Yeah i think it will likely go towards that this gen, maybe here and there will be someone bragging about their games, but yeah right now it seems like Nvidia has to show off RTX, and don't want devs to show it off without them, so I'm under the impression that RTX is used for marketing, but not really ready for the market.

2018-09-26 16:38:32 UTC

another thing is I think ray tracing is 100% only a single player thing. In multiplayer games you want to see the enemy clearly. Shadows are the first thing you disable

2018-09-26 16:39:50 UTC

Lol true that, only reason i like console mp is because i know that my opposition see what i see and how i see it lol, really weird how people disable effects to make it simpler to spot their opponents... Cheap hacks lol

2018-09-26 16:40:14 UTC

until everybody has a RTX card and the games force everybody to use it you will be at an disadvantage

2018-09-26 16:41:46 UTC

Yeah, really need those options that force settings in competitive gaming. Just my 2 cents, but i hardly play competitive anyways, so I'm not bothered, no local UT fans that i can find that enjoy a good arena shooter

2018-09-26 16:43:33 UTC

the new quake is also a disappointment. i'm not a fan that each char has different armor/hp and abilities

2018-09-26 16:44:03 UTC

old school quake was pure skill based. nothing to do with the char you chose

2018-09-26 16:44:34 UTC

Yeah, I'm not a fan of that either, want to put my skills to the test, not the have artificial skills integrated.

2018-09-26 16:45:43 UTC

UT4 is also kinda straying, which is dissapointing, changing weapon functions and even including unnecessary weapons, so that's ticking me off a bit.

2018-09-26 16:48:49 UTC

I'm thinking of getting Origin Access Premier when Battlefield 5 comes out

2018-09-26 16:49:17 UTC

its R200 pm then you get access to all EA's games

2018-09-26 16:49:33 UTC

the open beta was very fun

2018-09-26 16:50:51 UTC

then it will cover Anthem's release also

2018-09-26 16:51:05 UTC

Yeah i got a large steam library of games i still need to play, same with the ps4 free games i get... It's a marketing gimmick to get you to pay more really, you don't really get actually get your moneys worth unless you literally have no life and job lol so i no longer bother with these extra cash grabs.

2018-09-26 16:51:30 UTC

BF5 is 20 Nov and Anthem is 22 Feb

2018-09-26 16:54:13 UTC

Personally not looking forward to either, dropped out of bf after 4, and looks to me like they moving further away from battlefield for what it is to be, and becoming something else, they just keep the branding for the sales.

For me it's remake of resi evil 2, insurgency sandstorm which I'm enjoying the beta of, red dead redemption 2 and then the upcoming doom eternal. Everything else is kind meh for me now.

2018-09-26 16:55:42 UTC

Doom eternal looks very fun

2018-09-26 16:56:04 UTC

have you seen the trailers of Rage 2

2018-09-26 16:57:36 UTC

I am just waiting for fallout76

2018-09-26 16:57:42 UTC

Yeah i really enjoyed the 2016 one, it felt like doom as it should be, so also keen on eternal. Yeah I've seen rage2, but it's not really exciting me. I seem to be leaning towards the linear hand crafted experience, as opposed to the new sandbox and average experiences.

2018-09-26 17:03:25 UTC

Its a fine balance to make open world games fun. Not many games have done it right. I think Witcher 3 probably came the closest to be perfect but even that had its flaws
