This is regressive, you are supposed to be moving forward and progressing, as in away from that norm that is bad, crime should not be going up it should be going down, unemployment shouldn't be going up it should be going down, you get the idea, so you should not be making the kind excuses like its always been like this, so this is what the standard should be. And the scary thing is you take this low standard to the voting booth, as do the large majority. Its scary honestly.
