Dieudonne Saive was Browning's assistant
He actually made the staggered magazine that worked
If you want to see our gun nerds in pain:

Which is surprisingly hard to do: if you read the history, there are very few successful magazine designs
Which is why changing the mag disigns is often a major thing
Hence why it is kind of a given that guns use established magazines from other models (like beretta or glock)
It was a surprise for me to learn that anyway
But apparently making a box with a spring to hold rounds is hard
I mean it all seems so stupidly simple, doesn't it?
And that is part of why "Gun people" freak out over "Common sense" magazine restrictions
Its not that simple as its about Angles and you have to be careful of cartdidges jamming up the mag
Apparently Val Allen Browning was working with Saive on that gun
Because you don't want to oil your magazine, would you?
Yeah, the way rounds are getting pushed up is not trivial. And exactly because magazines have so few parts there are no obvious solutions.
Either your geometry works or it's back to the drawing board, no quick fixes.
I mean, they get jossled by an explosion, shoved by recoil, bumped by bolt ... and they have to feed fast and precise despite all of those influences
Wich is why they started with integrated magazines
I can get surplus HK and Santa Barbara Magazines for my Rifle for about $5 a pop, to get 10 rounds they are like $30 plus and for hunting 5 round magazines I have to buy a new rifle. Not to mention the fact that I can clean and maintaine the military surplus 20 rounders no problem, I haven't been able to clean the 5 rounders
Could be intentional
Corporations are getting increasingly asshole about customer servicability
Wasn't there the Test with the cop and reloading?
Mostly so people would throw it away and buy a new one
It is more just the Laws at this point here.
I hate this trend, given that I can fix devices myself for the most part
I fixed my parent's shop vac 6 times
I even coated the chamber in epoxy because it was getting rusty
From what I have heard most mags sent to Canada are pinned so you can't replace the follower, ever.
NJ has a state Law that once "Smart Guns" become a common thing on the market, only "Smart Guns" are avalible for sale in NJ period.
Yeah, because you can install an assault-follower in place of the stock one
smh
Canadian Law has round limits on mags so in order for the mags to work as designed, they just punch a rivet across to block the follower to comply with Canadian law... and as a result you can't fix a broken follower
That's just lazy
No it is the fact that so many firearms are designed around a certian Mag and then the law changes and limits the round count. Now either fuck up the mag or redesign the firearms
Well, cali mags have an insert, which does not ruin them
Still dumb IMO, but at least serviceable
The Rivet is a legal requirement from the gov as I understand it.
can confirm on canadian mag limits. When it comes to things like the SKS they often use a hunk of metal welded in to prevent more then 5 rounds from being loaded. Most handgun mags are built to only allow 10 rounds.
Thank you, @hoocli
Now that is a gun!
