wut
i mean, the AK beats the AR in popularity. It is gonna keep shooting when beat up a hell of a lot more.
but you don't need to worry about that when you don't live in a house with a dirt floor and have ready access to gun oil
31,165 rounds from a standard AR-15, only maintainence to it was to spray it with CLP occasionally.
Still runs.
"We received the carbine in late 2008 and put #14 into service shortly thereafter.
At Brady, Texas, in March 2009, it suffered a malfunction, which was reduced with Immediate Action. The bolt was wiped down at 6,450 rounds.
At Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, in May 2009, it had several failures to extract, and the extractor spring was replaced at 13,010 rounds. This is far beyond the normal extractor spring life under these conditions.
At Wamego, Kansas, in June 2009, two bolt lugs broke at 16,400 rounds. We replaced the BCG. Considering the firing schedule, this is within normal parameters.
At Columbus, Ohio, in November 2009, we had several failures to extract at 24,450 rounds. The shooter gave it a field cleaning and replaced the extractor and extractor spring.
At 28,905 rounds, we finally cleaned Filthy 14. As part of our year-end maintenance schedule, we inspect and replace parts as necessary. Filthy 14 looked like the inside of the crankcase of Uncle Ed’s ’49 Packard. It was disgusting to look at and contaminated everything near it, somewhat like the toner cartridges for old printers."
AR's being "not very durable" is a meme
I've seen, personally, AR-15's yeet'd into muddy creeks, left there for five minutes, pulle out, function checked and fired. No issues.
Don't get me wrong, AKs are hella cool, and I shoot them when I can (cause they're fun to shoot) but dollar for dollar you're not trading much in the way of reliability.
Especially considering that a cheaper AR versus a Cheaper (for US market) AK, the AK will always be a problem child.
That said, a good AK is fucking hilarious to shoot.
But if I was going to outfit people with guns for almost any reason, I'm picking AR over AK, for logistics reasons, for training reasons, for modernization reasons.
(That said my major complaints around the AK include things like their less than steallr sight radius, dust cover requiring a dogleg for optics, the dropped stock being generally uncomfortable to me personally ergonomically, etc)
I have both an AK and have used AR-10/15 pattern firearms a lot (Prior Service) and personally I bought an AK pattern carbine for defensive use.
Ye, of course YMMV on anything.
Every choice in that sort of regard is an engineering compromise
Hell my Troll Carbine is built entirely out of AR-15 Pattern Parts
But I built that as a bolt action just to be a troll
I wanna make either a really fancy fancy gun or a stupidly trollish one
Not fancy like high speed low drag
But like...uselessly gucci
Gold-plated GI mags
etc
People had anodised GI-Mags for a while, in like Pink, gold, blue, and other bright commercial colors
ye
TBH, I wanna get the body done up in that vantablack shit
cause that sounds so stupid
You want it fancy
Dear god
Maybe some day
How about that for "Gucci"
Y'see that's more "classy" than "gucci" which is more like "this is so stupid."
I want to do a fugly tupperwere pistol
I even have the slide picked out
https://www.lonewolfdist.com/Detail.aspx?PROD=922562
Then I just need the 80% and the internals. I was thinking .357SIG
Tediore pistol?
Basicly I want to make a Hi-point out of Glock Parts
Maybe I should be putting this in Shitposting...
Nah, it's a good idea
